Was in Galway at the weekend, felt almost normal. Walked by Eyre Square at one point in the evening and it was jammed with folk, like a festival. It was lovely tbh

Just learned that a guy i went to college with has died from covid age 42. As about as fit as you can get. Cross fit/rock climber/body builder... Refused to get the vaccine... Died after 4 weeks in hospital. Shocking.

This is the guy. Supremely fit, but that doesnt stop you from catching it and dying.

Incredibly sad.

The guidance I read was a while ago and I can't remember the sourcr but it definitely said wash the masks at the highest temperature.

Easier to just buy disposable masks and swap them every 4 hours. Then you know you're wearing a clean and effective mask.

I have very rarely worn one in work so its only one for supermarkets or pubs now they're open. A packet of 10 is about £1.50 and lasts about a month.

I know it's harsh, but I literally have zero sympathy for people like that.

and now, all ICU beds in the state are full.
I should note they have actual rooms/beds…the limiting factor is nurses.

Lot of vaccine hesitancy and anti masking attitudes isn’t great when Delta seems very good at infecting.

Even places that have decent vax coverage (for US) and mask requirements are showing a bump

After seeing full capacity audiences at sporting events etc I just assumed America was on top of it

Yep - being totally honest, I was expecting to have seen a big spike by now. No idea why it's going so well (so far...)

Delta burns fast through the population like a standard bug. Not saying it's not dangerous - it clearly is - but it burns fast and then hits immunity.

I'm convinced that's what we saw.

However, we will probably have very similar with variants of covid from now on, this is likely how they'll act. It's what the aim was - you turn it into a standard bug that comes and goes and doesn't overwhelm the NHS. With boosters to come, that gives vulnerable groups more protection.
