No chance that there's any justification for stricter restrictions this summer than last given by summer we'll have the vaccine rolled out en masse.

We're currently on track in the UK for every adult to have been offered their first dose by some time in July, mate.

Absolutely ludicrous if there isn't the same level of 'normality' by then as we had at the same time last year.
Yeah, because that ended well didn't it?

There are real concerns building that current vaccines are steadily becoming less effective against the rate of new variants.

Just simply has not been taken seriously, again UK is at the heart of sole of allowing community transmission to run free throughout the population and allowing our airports facilitate these variants spreading quickly round the world aiding further spread.
Border control my ass! On all fours lung full of poppers and barebacked!
It's a neo-liberal basket case. A failed state.

Anyone who'd like to dispute that fact need to go and look at the total number of deaths in this country and contemplate them for a second. That's no accident, it happens because a corporate state makes decisions for business and not the mass of its population. It's mass murder. There are no other words to describe it.

Had a letter from NHS 2 weeks ago to take part in antibody study - said why not. Been sent the kit now today, have to pierce my finger with a needle and apparently get the results within 10-15mins.

Weird excitement over this.
I did the same in September mate. I know, felt like I was in a sci-fi film.

Underwhelming, it's showed up negative. No antibodies in me it seems, not wholly unsurprising given that I've not felt ill once in the past 12 months.

Stark warning from Prof Semple on Newsnight last night. Can't find a video link but the kicker was this.
Prof Calum Semple, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, told the BBC's Newsnight:
"It would really not surprise me if we're looking at another 40-50,000 deaths [UK] before this burns out.
"The deaths on the way up are likely to be mirrored by the number of deaths on the way down in this wave. Each one again is a tragedy and each one represents probably four or five people who survive but are damaged by Covid."

Fingers crossed. My wife is getting her first vaccination on the 11th of next month.

I'm hoping to have my first one in July for us to go on holiday end of July, don't wont to be missing out on another summer holiday abroad.

Completely agree with what you're saying and I hope you are right.

Very depressing start to the year so I'm keeping my expectations very low.

I should state, I'm fully aware I'm probably being wishful in my thinking, knowing this government, they'd open up too soon and we'd be in lockdown again.

But if they just get it right, for once, i don't see the justification for having stricter measures in July 2021 than we did in July 2020 given the vaccine etc

Would love to get abroad myself but probably gonna wait until later in the year to get anything booked. Rather be safe than sorry.

I just think, really, given the rate of vaccine roll out in the UK so far, we shouldn't be looking at a summer full of restrictions. That's before even counting general levels of herd immunity etc.
