Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

MP was on Radio 4 this morning saying that over 70s won’t be asked to self isolate, but reduce their social interaction by ‘about 75%’.

What a nonsense.
Saw the health minister say similar on the marr show today. Marr asked him so who is going to look after all the elderly who require care visitors etc. The dumb tory was so obviously flummoxed by that.

Trump apparently tried to buy out some German scientists so they can develop a vacchine - just for the US, of course: Corona: USA will Zugriff auf deutsche Impfstoff-Firma - WELT

the German government said feck off. The whole American first dipshit philosophy will cost the US hard now. It's very likely that Asia or Europe will come up first with a vacchine - and you can bet your grandmas that they will not share it with the US. They will probably give it to the Mexicans first, just to troll them.
The fallacy of nationalism...

So moving on. Makes you wonder why it would be a great idea to introduce "herd immunity" into the populace.

It's not really 'that' difficult. There are people who are at risk, so we keep them as far away from harm as possible. The vast majority of the rest of the population are at very little risk, so them getting it and developing immunity helps to keep those who are at risk safe in the medium-term until a vaccine is created. So do your bit and keep any elderly people near you as safely tucked away as possible.

Have been listening to the Mrs manage a care team go into meltdown with angry service users or and their family, they have been afforded one mask each since Thursday, multiple contact with confirmed cases in the area.
The beautiful well funded social care sector, with its low tax, money in your pocket society. The chickens are roosting!

I know - it’s mind blowing. The people who will require Hospital and ICU support are the elderly and people with existing health conditions. Only now they are talking of isolating them.

I’ve heard the term Darwinism thrown around a bit in this thread, whilst I don’t hold this view that our govt is deliberately abandoning the elderly and sick, I do believe they are guilty of not doing enough, not heeding the advice from China and Italy and putting all their faith in debatable scientific analysis and models.

It's not really that difficult? Let me walk you through this. 48 hrs ago both in America and the UK we were told there's no reason for alarm. Despite the fact Italy was in lockdown.

You are aware that you can go about your daily life without contracting COVID, you can be on public transport with infected people and if you follow basic hygienic rules will not contract it

Now both our countries are de-facto in a state of emergency. Which by all assessments is a complete lack off government preparation and responsibility to their populace. Cases are rising which if you were paying attention was obvious since the data was two weeks out of date. Emergency services will cope but they will be heavily burdened as I'm sure your wife has already informed you.

I'm not sure what either Italy or the United States has to do with the situation in the UK. The approach taken is completely different in both of the other countries. This is what I meant earlier. You're carrying on like Maude Flanders. Maybe log off as this isn't doing your own mental health any good, and your demeanour certainly isn't helping the mental health of anyone who has the misfortune of venturing into this thread.

That's not true. You reduce risk is all.
Hancock stated the government are putting place legislation to stop large gatherings of over 100. And maybe even arrest people who are out and about with symptoms.
