NHS England announces 122 more deaths of coronavirus in England.

This brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,739.
Of the 122 new deaths announced today:

– 27 occurred on May 17
– 59 occurred on May 16
– 29 occurred on May 15
– six occurred on May 14,
– one occurred on May 13

NHS England said the Covid patient notification system did not operate for a period of time on May 16 and this may have had an impact on the number of deaths reported today, which is lower than would be expected.

The figures published today by NHS England show April 8 continues to have the highest number for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day, with a current total of 889.

32 up on yesterday but it’s a sad positive that all the figures have come this week and not backdated from the last two months

That's just one way this government have manipulated figures concerning infection.

I notice also now the daily cases and fatality updates are in relation to England and not the UK as a whole.

They are nothing but snake oil salesman and butcherers.

No wonder the vast majority of people in this country no longer trust them to get us out of this.

They do the UK numbers as well mate, the one I put up is from NHS England and just relates to hospital deaths in England, it doesn't include care homes and community deaths though, just the hospitals.

Yeah I remember early on LL people were saying they had lost their taste and smell and a lot of people dismissing them as symptoms over here.
Here is the report was thinking about. Just one study of course and loss smell/taste also associated with other bugs but think we all have a new appreciation that seasonal flu is also far from harmless
Fig. 1: Association between symptoms and SARS-CoV-2 infection, and ROCs for prediction of the risk of a positive test.

We report that loss of smell and taste is a potential predictor of COVID-19 in addition to other, more established, symptoms including high temperature and a new, persistent cough. COVID-19 appears to cause problems of smell receptors in line with many other respiratory viruses, including previous coronaviruses thought to account for 10–15% of cases of anosmia7,9.

We also identify a combination of symptoms, including anosmia, fatigue, persistent cough and loss of appetite, that together might identify individuals with COVID-19.

The total number of death reported tomorrow or Wednesday will be interesting mate, they always seem to be around the 400 mark, it would be heartening if those number were way lower.
Aren't they normally up towards 6/700 mate as they include the lag from the weekend. Thursday/Friday figures are probably more reliable. If tomorrow's was below 500 that would be good. Not that good is a word you'd want to use in association with deaths.

We also need to see the new infections coming down quickly too. I'm hoping it will be below 3000 today

Reading that you can understand the governments push to try and get the ball rolling with re opening schools.

Which is fine, if they'd also be honest and say there are three main reasons to get some kids back to school in June :-

  1. It's good for the kids, especially for those from poorer backgrounds
  2. It helps make it easier for some people to work, so contributes to getting the economy back to closer to normal
  3. If it does result in a small to medium rise in cases, the effect is likely to be at least partly mitigated by the start of the summer holidays.
(3) isn't something I've seen mentioned in the media, but I'm sure the modellers, scientists and medics will have it at the back of their minds.
