Corners

There are plenty of areas we can improve next season and here is a big one.

I thought our corners this season were the worst in memory. A lot of rally poor deliveries and no end product.

I struggle to remember goals coming off them - Barkley at home vs Swansea maybe.

Why were we so poor in this area and what is the solution?

I think we need to have the players you gave a nine to the other day to take them. Coleman takes them from the Left and Kenwright takes them from the right.

We must be up there on corners. We get 8+ most games we had 13 against palace at home I think.

Terrible. Does anyone have the stats around goals scored from corners? Wouldn't be surprised if we were last.

Baines and Kev have been awful.

We need to assign the corner duty to someone permanently. I've seen in games that Mirallas takes them, then Del takes them and Baines is in the mix too. Its no brainer that Baines is the best corner taker so he should be regularly taking them.

I know people talk about beating the first man, but it is the same at a lot of clubs, when you try to whip the ball in to the most dangerous area with pace you often hit the first man due to the trajectory of the ball.

I think the biggest problem is we don't have very many players who aggressively attack the hall. Distin is probably our most dangerous player from set pieces but I don't think he is great in the air technically. Jags, Barry, Lukaku all lack aggression when attacking crosses. Apparently Duffy is very aggressive attacking the ball and is technically a good header of a football, much like Joleon.

(I suppose the lack of corner practice does mean we don't have much variety in our set piece play also.)

I honestly believe we need to do short corners, the stats show that in the prem it's something like 1 in 10 corners reach the same team and even then 1 in 5 result in a shot, not a goal...but a shot. The stats might even be more than that, i can't fully remember.

But we have a short(ish) team, we have quick wingers, to me, it's short corner and either drag it in or cross from the edge of the box/shoot from the edge.

Corners whipped in are a gamble everytime and we're seeing more and more teams hit the first man.

...apparently the reds first goal last night was the only one Palace have conceded from a corner this season. If you watch, they block the markers off, leaving somebody with a free header. Very rarely do the blocks result in a foul. We probably need to be a bit cleverer.

If Bobby isn't too fussed on set-plays, perhaps the captain or the kick-takers want to work on this, because while I love Roberto and his style of play, a goal is a goal for me!

Martinez needs to realise 3-4 goals from corners this season could have gotten us into 4th, you get a corner you get it swung in

To be fair most teams will score maybe 1 out of 15 corners, only in the UK do we "celebrate" getting a corner with a roar of "COME ON!".

Like @ijjysmith said, give them the goal kick

Crystal Palace vs Everton at Goodison park, trailing 1-0 after 7 corners against Palace get there 1st corner and Bamm 2-0 and bye bye CL for us, we had 13 and not sure any resulted in a shot.
Had we score 1-10 we would of been 4th

Agree that we are terrible at corners, Baines delivery hasn't been good enough, and not enough inswinging corners.

We avarage 6.68 corners a game, which is the 3rd highest, we concide 4.95 corners a game, so that works out at 253 corners this season( of course my maths could be wrong)
Corner stats from foot stats.com

I think someone said we scored 3 goals off corners. Terrible
