Just looking at Martinez's signings for Swansea.

Williams £528k
Angel £88k
Allen promoted from youth team
Dyer £528k
Gomez loan

He made £100k with his transfer dealings in his two seasons at the club.

Apparently his contract with Wigan was for £500k per year compared to the £4m per year that Moyes reportedly earned.

If Celtic, Villa and Liverpool all thought he was good enough then surely we can't be going too far wrong.

Williams is good to see which means he can spot a defender. He made a 2 million profit for 2 million this year in transfers.

Some very good signings there hopefully he can work some magic here in the transfer market

I'd like to think people would be patient too mate: let the feller find his feet this season by getting used to the place and gelling the team he inherits (including the kids who never got a break under ginger) with players he brings in. We must be prepared to see our league position dip, IMO, though not into the bottom half of the table.

Top half finish + a decent cup run (or two) + the team showing signs they are ready to kick on in season two. We have to be realistic here...which is why Billy Liar's idiot words didn't help today.

I'm sure he has a better footballing brain than Moyes but my main concern is that I don't think he has the same bloody-minded will to win. Maybe we need Dunc snarling alongside him in the dug out to ensure that we don't become too soft?

Difficult to disagree with any of that Dave
I know mate. First point about optimism v realism was key. He has to get a grip of the narrative, rein in wild expectations (thanks Billy Liar!) and set out his vision about what's possible in season one. There's a fine line to be walked between cheerful and looking like a grinning idiot.

I like the fact he is aimign for top 4. On the current upward trajectory, we would have got top 4 next season under Moyes. We only needed to win a couple more games and we'd have had 4th this season. Next year 63 points might be enough.

However, he needs to go and achieve that now. No excuses. Languishing outside the top 8, irrelevent of cup performance will not be acceptable, and he will have to go. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

He'll need to grow a thicker skin here, for sure. He is cool as **** under pressure though...that is a strength too...you dont need to be snarling and glaring to exude control.

Moyes doesn't have a will to win; his desire is not to lose.

Moyes is not and never will be a natural winner. He was a pragmatist who rarely gambled. Martinez... Seems like the opposite but I don't know. It really is hard to say as he's never done anything at this level, so we'll just have to wait and see.
