Conceding from set pieces

Title-winning teams don't give a lot away. They'll take a 1-0 but if they can get more goals to make the game safe without risking what they've got, they'll take them. Maybe we're being too adventurous if we're dominating teams so much?

If that is the criteria for a title winning team, then we're not one.

We might be playing wonderful football but we've gone behind in the last 7 games and only won 2 of them. What can we do about being more clinical infront of goal other than shooting practice? Being more clinical in defence should be something that we can control more though.

Height doesn't matter if your defenders give the runner a two yard head start like we did to Le Fondre today.

The issue is concentration when a ball is lofted in. Osman switched off in the second static phase to concede the other week and it seems like it's every game where Everton as a team are asleep for the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Hoof balls by the opposition and set pieces are going to be the reason why we won't finish 4th. I guess this is what happens when you press the RB and LB way forward.

It would take some digging around to find out. Opta say that City have conceded the most with 60% but they've only let in 10....60% of 10 is 6, which is the same number as us.

Since Heitinga has come in for Distin I think we've only conceded one header from a set piece, so I wouldn't put it down to a lack of height. I think we're just not as organised and switched on as we could be.

True. You don't necessarily need to win the ball in the air to prevent this type of goal. just pressuring the attacker enough so he can't get a clean contact. From what I remember, all the headed goals we've conceded have been free headers.

I may have made that last bit up to fit in with the gist of my post.

I think moyes should sign us up as coaches

The central defenders dont seem to be taking charge and getting in the right positions (going missing) at the heart of defense were the balls are coming in , look at the lpool set piece and simple ball in the other week Nobody there one of the easiest goals yet , somthing not right thats for sure

Edit , Just listening to what david moyes said on there 1st goal and pretty much blaming coleman about his man getting around him for the headed set piece , But for me it shouldnt of been coleman in that central and heart of the defence position in the first place (could even be said to a lesser extent about the pen to) .. like i was saying they seem to be lining up in the wrong positions and areas when the balls are coming in , and looking at these replays The core two centre halfs are Not making them positions theres

Past teams we have had great winners in the air of the ball in defence - Labone Kenyon, Mountfield Rattcliffe
to think DM sold Kalldrop because he could not win a header our back pairing at the moment is very poor Jags is playing well if Distan is injured DM has to play Duffy played 5 games last season =outstanding then dropped!

Jags needs a decent partner Distan iffy -JH pure rubbish with no height so why not try young Duffy who last season had a number of games & should never have been dropped 6-2 commanding in the air DM has to try hin sooner than later our defence must be the smallest in the prem!

shane is 6ft 5 joey66.....and i am like most on here when or if he gets his chance again he will be fantastic....i know moyes likes to bring the young lads through slowly but i see major problems at the back week in week out.b)

hello bluejock, all is good at the min thanks...a bit gutted about yesterday, but put it behind us and move on...hope you and yours are all keeping well(y)

All good ta pal, just winding down after the weekend. Kids are off school tomorrow so there's no rest for the wicked.

Reckon Shane'll be looking at a few starts if we keep leaking goals like we are right now.

That's good to hear that pal. Glad they got the contract situation sorted as well, might just be the next Ratcliffe if he gets in and takes his chance.
