Computer games.

got it on sale on Switch. really looking forward to it.

finished Steamworld Dig and Shovel Knight recently. two other v good platformers

Let me know how you get on. I haven't been that into them 2d games since the mega drive days well exception for the likes of unravel, limbo and unravel them types. but Hollow Knight is a trip it's mad intricate and atmospheric. I'll have look these games people like yourself are suggesting but I'm consumed by Hollow Knight atm.

Blasphemous will be a metroidvania-esque game and will feature non-linear levels just like hollow knight. They are easily my favourite genre of games and I have to say hollow knight is definitely up there with the best. If you ever played and enjoyed Castlevania: Symphony of the night I recommend Bloodstained: ritual of the night, it's basically a SOTN clone.

I'll get on it after I go about seeing a councillor about coming off HK. Have to give props to the construction of these games. Like a triple aaa open world's. Graphically impressive but it just go to this spot, do the game mechanics. Travel ages to next spot and repeat. It's been burning me out. Needed something more. Reminds me of a from software game if you've ever played them.

Is the power button lit up? Or any of the other LEDs if the power button doesnt have one.

Does it come on even the minute its turned on and go off or doesn't come on at all? The screen that is.
Can you hear the fan whirling or hard drive spinning as in the usual noises it makes when on.

Tilt the screen back and gently push in with your thumb on the corner and see if it flickers. If not sounds like screen is dead.
Power button is lit and I can hear the fan. The screen has shown no life whatsoever. I've plugged the laptop in to the TV using an HDMI lead and there's nothing showing on the TV either.

Looks like the screen is dead then ffs.

Cheers

It is definitely like a From Software game difficulty and gameplay wise. From Software games are basically 3-D metroidvania games imo.

Good call on the HDMI.

That means the Graphic adapter is dead. If it doesn't show anything on the laptop screen nor the TV that is. As long as it changes to the TV automatically. You may need to the the FN and F key with the icon for the screencast icon. It generally looks like a little tv above the key or two screens with a cable F8 or F6 to manually cast it to the TV from the laptop. Generally it does it automatically with HDMI but worth a shot

I spoke on the phone today with a tech person from where I bought it and they wanted me to do a static discharge by removing the battery but the battery is built-in therefore I'm sending it back.

Cheers for the advice mate ;)

Did he say the main battery or the cmos battery?

I once had a no screen issue and replacing the cmos battery fixed it, no idea how or why, it was completely random. I guess the fact it was absent for a few mins just re-set the boot process

Edit: then again you wouldn't expect a dying cmos battery on a brand new laptop

Just the main battery. These are the instructions they emailed across..

Failure of a system to boot is sometimes due to a build-up of static within the main board and can easily be resolved by following the steps below:

1. Disconnect the battery (only if removable) and power leads from the laptop
2. Hold down the power button for 40 seconds
3. Plug the battery in and reconnect the power leads
4. Leave the unit charging for 15 - 30 minutes

You should now be able to run the machine solely off the battery although it will need a full charge.

So....basically, they are saying in a round about way
"Turn it off, wait a few, turn it back on"
Tbh mate, that's pretty great advise...but whilst your waiting for it to turn back on....grab a box and put your laptop in it and send it back. If your having to remove the cmos battery on a lappy.. .that's a deffo warranty job as I'm sure removing the cmos will mean opening up the lappy voiding the warranty in the process. If when turning on your lappy and repeatedly pressing Delete, F12, F2...or whatever the bios entering steps are...if you cant even get into the bios...it is a deffo hardware issue and the suppliers know it !!

Removing the CMOS battery is the crude way to set the bios to default. Their hope is that the bios is simply not recognizing the video hardware and so is stuck. It has nothing to do with overall power. In fact you have to remove the battery and then let the laptop drain before you even attempt to remove the cmos battery

By the way if you contact their support and they advise you to do this it does not void your warranty.

Now If it is the actual battery they want him to remove to let drain then yes i agree 100% with you they are pulling his leg. Their hope in this case is that their is some charge making one of the components stick. By removing the battery then holding down the switch it will drain. But as he said himself he heard the fan and HDD spin so this is actually a waste of time.

But yes i get your overall statement and agree with you he shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get it working and should send it back especially if its in the first 15 or 30 days (depending on their return policy)
