Computer games.

Does anyone use a Mac for gaming? I've always been a console gamer, partly because of the ease of use and I've ever had a computer powerful enough or one that I've looked after properly. Some people have said Macs are rubbish for gaming but others say they're good.

Any games that I wouldn't be able to get on my Xbox 360 that I could play on this? I don't think power will be a problem, I've got 8GB RAM and a Core i5 2.4ghz processor, which is good apparently.

Were there any games in particular that you were looking to play? Major factor half the time with pc/mac games is the resolution you run them at. You might be fine with some of the higher end games but only if you run them at a lower quality graphic option. All depends really on what games you're going for I guess..

Not really to be honest. I only really play FIFA and GTA on my Xbox so was wondering if there was anything in particular on PC/Mac that was worth playing.

The above picture pretty much summises Mac gaming.

Yeah, the SSD boots up your system quicker etc. So that is a plus.

Never even heard of Iris graphics to be honest. 8gig ram and a 2.4 I5 processor isn't bad.

I would expect it would do just fine but won't break any land speed records if you know what I mean.

Get steam -

Has Mac games all in one place.

Haha, point taken!

I'll have a look at that, cheers.

Loads! You can pretty much play the same games on consoles as you can on PC, it depends on your playing style and requirements.

Some games are better on consoles, some games are better on PC(MAC).

Football, racing, arcade games etc are much better suited to the control pad, games that require a bit more finesse or accuracy are much better suited to PC(MAC) mouse/keyboard (Strategy, RPG, FPS etc).

That's not to say you can't plug your Xbox controller into the PC(MAC) and get the best of both worlds.

What kind of games do you like to play?

PC/MAC specific I would recommend a couple -

- XCOM
- DOTA 2 (Free to play on steam!)
- Team Fortress 2 (Free to play on steam!)
- Football Manager
- Rust
- Fallout (whole series)

It all depends on what you like really...

Great stuff mate, thanks for that.

I'm a bit dull with games and mainly only play FIFA, the odd racing game, and GTA. I was just thinking of getting some more use out of it really, considering it cost me £1250. Plus, I can't afford to get a next gen console and thought that my Mac would be similar(?) to the next gens in terms of power and all that (I might be way off, though). Games seem to be a fair bit cheaper on PC/Mac too which would be nice. Plus, the retina display is absolutely superb. Much, much better than my TV!

I've seen that you can plug an Xbox controller in to it, which would suit me perfectly.

I'll check Steam out this weekend and have a little browse.

You can plug an XBOX controller into your Mac and play online emulators for N64, SNES, GAMEBOY, PS1 games.

Anyone else played The Banner Saga?

It's the tits.

Made by a few ex-Bioware devs, it's basically a turn-based strategy game with an interesting few twists on the genre's classic battle mechanics, mixed in with a load of horrifying choices and management in a Norse mythology inspired, end of days setting. To top it off the visuals are incredible, with some really detailed, hand-drawn animations.

Just Googled that - found the most ridiculous news story of the day.

Ok...so I'm still playing a LOT of Planetside 2 on my PC.

Would love to find another title to mess with. Something along the lines of adventure/role playing. I loved Diablo III and used to play the Morrowind series quite a bit.

Any suggestions for me ???
