Computer games.

In two minds to get a pc.

One side of it means having to shell out 50 quid a month per part for the next 10 months to get a half decent one which will be out of date by the time I build the bloody thing. The other side is getting a pre built one which is worse specs but I get it sooner. Anyone on pc care to throw their 2 cents in?

I mean the specs on one I was looking at ore built, tell me at least what is wrong with it

I'm not up on specs or anything and I would mainly get a pc simply to play cheaper games in all honesty and be able to play strategy games and the like. If they run top games now on those specs then even better. I'm not looking for vr or 4k either.

There is 'owt wrong with that if you are after a cheap computer that should be able to run games on medium settings. Like you allude, you won't be running at 4k, doing VR or even flirting with ultra/v high/high settings @ 60fps at 1080p.

But that should be what you need to get going, and despite you thinking the parts being out of date, not so much. They won't be brand new, but they will still be pretty good. Out of all of that, I would stick a little more on the graphics card. For only a little more, you could be on the 1050 Ti, which is a little better. If you can afford it, stretch to the AMD RX 470 4GB. Tidy card, great performance for the money, and you can start looking at running some of those games at much higher settings while still hitting the 60fps mark.

Get i5 processor, more memory(at least 16gb ram) and you should definetively get SSD

I'd definitely go for at least an i5 or i7

Nah, if it is a budget build, the i3 will suffice so long as you get a decent gpu in there, as the GPU will give much larger improvements in games.

If the budget allows, by all means get an i5/i7, more RAM and a SSD. But if the goal is not spending money, and having it to play games on, then i3, 8GB and a spinning hard drive are all acceptable parts.

Conan exiles uses around 11 GB RAM.

And? Minimum is 6GB and recommended is 8GB. I am sure, that if it is offered more RAM, it will use it.

But the pertinent thing here is that Conan: Exiles is not his targeted game:

Spending a few extra on the GPU is much more flexible than more ram or a beefier CPU.

cheers for the responses. If i bought a pre built one from currys, for example would it still be fine to upgrade further down the line or would i be locked to that build and have to build one in the future? If i could get one for the meantime and run with that then would it be fine for me?

Also, with the specs i put up above, what would and wouldn't i be able to do? Assuming i can't push it 4k and stuff, what is the limitations of the specs above in terms of gaming? Would it still play the likes of Skyrim and games as that or would it rule them out?

Have you had a look on sites such as overclockers(other sites are available) you can play around building your own pc, which they will then build and ship to you, basically you pick the parts and they build it. That way you can choose the parts to fit your budget at the same time getting the best for your money. They also do pre-built.

To answer apoint abovem most games have min and max setting, it all depends how bothered you are about pixels really. You don't need 4k for your needs, nowhere near it.

It is the cost though mate which is the difference here. Somewhere like curries i can buy in installments if that makes sense, whereas building one i have to either find a spare 500 quid or more importantly buy each month which isn't as bad but going to be out of date by the time i have finished.

So if it was a case of do not buy the pre built one because you can't game on it like a console (the specs above) then i would have to just buy each month and perhaps just buy in reverse order so the shorter shelf life items like graphics and that are bought last.

I just really want to be know whether those specs above right now are going to be fine for general gaming or would it massively limit me? If i could upgrade the thing further down the line then i would go for that but if it was limited to that and nothing else then obviously i would not bother.
