Computer games.

It's all subjective anyway

I just give my opinion on something and explain why

If someone has different criteria that they weight a game on, then that's great

All I can do is explain to you why I do/don't like a game, and hopefully you'll find it useful in some form

I like your bits mate. Especially as they're retro stuff which I'm really into at the mo (bought a Gameboy Advance SP for no real reason last week!). Like your Olympic Soccer thing bought back memories. I remember it being not bad but your review probably made me think twice and realise it was all memories.

Ha yeah they're usually pretty garish. I'm happy with my predator ak, though I do like the wasteland, just because Fallout.

I'm purposely avoiding finding out how to gamble. It will be carnage.
Exactly, haha! Wasteland isn't that expensive iirc?

Never learn how to gamble, it's quite a crap situation really. There's actual roulette type websites and stuff and people lose tons of money on them, it's ridiculous :(

If a game is good to me. It's a good game to me.

If a game is a good game to you, it's a good game to you.

That's what I said - subjective.

I like some objectively terrible games, but they are subjectively good to me as I enjoy them. I could never claim they're actually "good" games though as deep down I know they're just a guilty pleasure rather than something that's actually decent.

I get the whole subjective/objective thing of course.

But if you like a game that some fat YouTube bloke didn't like, then it's still a good game. For you. You decide what you like, not some total random.

They might give you an idea of what a game is like, what goes on and so on, but surely they'll never sway you into liking a game or not?

No mate, playing it does. What I'm saying is that a critics job is to look for reasons the game is objectively good, while putting a subjective spin on it (it's impossible to be 100% objective). They have trained eyes to look beyond content for the sake of content.

So for example, Giant Bomb:

There's tons to do in Mad Max, but most of what you do are the same few things, over and over again. I did it because I felt like I was supposed to, because some piece of my weird brain told me what I was doing was fun.

So he's recognising he didn't hate the game as he played it, as on some level he was subjectively having fun, but they understood its' flaws objectively, and scored it 6/10.

Mad Max isn't a good game objectively in my view, and I didn't like it subjectively either - it bored me.

Didn't it get a load of good reviews too though?

I remember Hitman Absolution getting panned by everybody and I ended up absolutely loving it.

Different strokes and all that.....

Mad Max has been quite interesting, in that the user scores from gamers tend to be high but scores from most critics have tended to be low

Total Biscuit did a very long 40 minute video about it, which was interesting yet waffled on a bit

Basically, critics seem to have really disliked this game where as quite a lot of gamers have enjoyed it

I'm not really sure why there's such a huge disconnect between those two groups. I haven't played the game as I don't really have enough to play that along with the games I'm already due to write about

From what I've seen, it looks like you do a lot of faffing about the place, but then you do that in a lot of games. I think critics have reached a point where they expect more from games of this type. The market is kind of over saturated when it comes to sandbox games I suppose. I didn't think the game looked too bad if I'm honest, but it doesn't jump out at me as something I'd HAVE to buy
