Seen a lot of comedians live over the years, but the ones that stand out are :

Steve Coogan when he was just starting out - Paul and Pauline Calf. Never ever laughed as much.

Al Murray early days of the Pub Landlord. Never seen anyone rip an audience like him.

Punt and Dennis - for their intelligence .

Bill Bailey - just mad.

Harry Hill - early days.

Daniel Kitson is the funniest man I have ever seen. Hasn't done any press or television since Phoenix Nights (he hated the experience and Peter Kay as a result) but is still regarded as the 'comedian's comedian'

His stand up is phenomenal but he spends much of his time these days writing and reciting one man plays and monologues. Dark, dark funny stuff.

This is such a hipster answer. I'd jump all over someone else for posting this.
The comedy equivalent of claiming to watch Macedonian 2nd division football for it's earthy realism.
