Reminds me of something that Warren Buffett once said about Coca Cola.. something along the lines of:

"If you gave me a billion dollars and said to me: 'I want you to become the #1 drinks company in the world' I would hand it back and say 'It can't be done'."

That is probably the highest compliment he could ever pay to a company in regards to total dominance.
Coke occupies the #1 position for very good reason, and it's always going to do so.

I learnt today that Diet Coke and Coke zero are precisely the same thing, it's just that 'Coke Zero' is aimed at men because they don't like to be seen walking round carrying a 'diet' drink.

You're spot on about the marketing strategy, but not quite so on the ingredients. They are mostly the same in the same way that Wesley from The Princess Bride was mostly dead. There's a big difference from mostly dead and all dead.
