Closing Thoughts on the Transfer Window

I've still got every faith that we're going places with Moshiri and Koeman, and there are exciting times ahead, this transfer window though just felt like all those other false dawns we've had over all those many, many years.

Hopefully lessons learned, and we do all our business early, a bit like the RS.

We can't, at the moment offer what other clubs can, Sissoko went for Champs League, same for Brahimi, Bony went for regular football. These things happen just wished we hadn't looked like proper nobheads whilst doing it.

Then find targets that we do have something to offer to, because we failed to appeal with some players is no excuse for us not getting in targets who wanted to be here.

The reality is, its really difficult ,if it wasn't the last day would be none entity ,but its massively hectic right down to the last minutes. The Club is moving in the right direction with steady hands at the hem , I think the future looks better than it has been for thirty years.

OK, sure it is difficult but we're paying people to overcome those obstacles and they failed to bring in the number of players the manager wanted. This isn't a window to be happy with, we've clearly failed to get the deals over the line and no matter what the reason it really isn't good enough from those responsible.

Who good we get in that actually improved the squad? Don't forget most of this squad is the one that reach 5th in Martinez' first season so with a better manager (Koeman) it can achieve similar...hopefully.

January:

Buy 1 or 2 squad players for decent but not excessive money (still having an excess of TV money not used) citing there's not enough value in January.

Season:

We'll finish top half, with a chance of making Europa League. Might even make it if we get 'lucky' with injuries.

Summer:

Sell Lukaku (so we can spend big on wages as the Stones money doesn't count anymore) for £70m.

Spend around 80m on players, massive fanfare about how much we've spent in the window.

Note: Still excess of TV money not spent from two consecutive windows. This money will be used to help fund the stadium and it'll be a substantial amount by this point, despite the positive posters being able to say we've had a positive netspend of 10m which is an improvement from last season.

I hope my predictions are wrong but I don't think I'm being overly negative based on what's actually happened so far.

From what I can make out of the window, even if we'd have got in most of our targets, at best we would have spent most of the TV money. The fact we haven't even done that shows, so far, we spent relatively more under BK.

Outwardly it looks like Moshiri bought the club due to the increase in TV money and he'll be using that to help finance the stadium, although I'm sure he'll secure a loan for the rest against his own finances.

It's in his interests to get the stadium built as he'll then get a return on his investment, so I think that'll happen. Really finding it hard to trust that he has any intention of investing significant amounts of his own or any other funders money in to the club though, despite what many journalists and ITK's have been saying.

There are better players out there than Kone. Than Cleverley, than Gibson, than Niasse, and Oviedo. Stekelenberg is a risk. Valencia is an outright gamble.

That's a question for the scouting department mate and what they're paid to figure out and accomplish isn't it? No point asking me, they're the ones who are supposed to have identified the realistic targets to improve the squad. My point is that whatever way you cut it they failed to accomplish what they were seeking to do which was add more players to the squad.

This squad is also 2 years older now from when we finished 5th and in case you haven't noticed we finished 11th 2 years on the bounce and some of that can be credited to the teams around us making decent transfer deals and not just Martinez being a tit.

I agree there is definitely better players than the ones you mention but can we get them is another thing, for me we missed out on Hart and Wilshere could have been a decent gamble if he stays fit. Have a decent season and then build from there.

In January, there will be decent players available whose clubs are no longer in the CL and EL and who will not be attractive to other clubs still in these competitions but will be attractive to us.

Maybe so but we still couldn't offer what he already had. My point being that we haven't done as badly as people seem to think, we got in what our current situation dictates.

We got what our current situation dictates????

There were so much players te pick up who were not 30 or 40 mil but we only wanten players who were not interested. I keep saying: we could have had janssen and Ziyech for 30 mil. Then you had creativity and a promising striker behind Lukaku and they're both verry young but instead of that we wanted to spend 60 mil on Bolasie and Sissoko.
