Clint Dempsey

I often wonder how many people here watch matches other than Everton matches. This thread gives me a few clues.

At any rate, Everton can't afford him and he's exactly the type of player (old) that this club shouldn't be buying even if they could scrounge up the fee.

Whoah there!!!! Lets take off our blue tinted specs for a second!

Cahill has offered us one thing. Goals. He isn't especially good at passing, he can't take a player on and his tackling is terrible. What he offered was that amazing ability with his head. When he isn't scoring people get on his back because he doesn't offer us anything else, but when he is on the scoresheet we all love him and forget his other failings.

Can't really comment on Dempsey as I don't watch Fulham all that much and don't watch the USMNT.

(Sorry Timmy and McBain, but that is how it is)

Let's take off our red and white striped glasses for a moment...

:)

I bet you think he's world class Kay don't you??, he's a player that does well in a team with absolutely no expectation whatsoever, a club who average 25,000 and take 23 fans to away games, if he came here , he would be a Bily Mark 2 in no time, he has no position he doesn't score enough goals ( this season an exception) to be an out an out striker and has zero creativity that we are starving for, enough to play in the whole , were hopefully Barkley will get a chance sooner rather than later, Clint Dempsey is an average footballer who will command a 7/8 m pound fee= no chance

Xavi. My friend. Why do you insist on thinking that I think every American on the planet walks on water and is AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually do not think Clint Dempsey is world-class. I think he is a very talented midfielder that could play for a Champions League team *depending* on the other cast involved. Folks think he should go to Arsenal to play there day in and day out. Or to Spurs. I think he would go and end up being benched due to the talent in front of him. Hope I'm wrong.

I think a club like us or Fulham is a perfect spot for him where he can shine. And yes, I would take him here in a heartbeat due to our lack of scoring goals. And yes, I am putting our two clubs on the same level this year in terms of our performance (not in terms of our fan base).

I think Clint Dempsey is great. I think he is the #2 best ever American on the USMNT (we know who I think is #1).

I think he is infinitely better than Bily. He is not Bily Mark 2 as he has already contributed a ton to Fulham and will retire a Fulham legend. To talk about them in the same sentence is horrid.

But I do not talk about Clint Dempsey in the same tone as RVP, Rooney, Silva, Messi, etc.

Let me spell it out for you: I DO NOT THINK EVERY AMERICAN IS WORLD-CLASS.

Quit telling me I do.

And as for your "average" player statement, please read the media about him lately.

I'm American and to be honest, I don't like him. He does have that heartwarming (wrenching) story about his sis and all, but he just comes off like a bit of a [Poor language removed]. That being said, I'd take him in a heartbeat...in fact it has already been said, he would be a great "Moyes" player. Works as hard as anyone.

All of that being said...never going to happen. Next rumour please...

This is a tricky one,, there is no doubt in my mind that Clint would get 10+goals in any team what ever league in Europe.( and yes, i do think he,s that good ) But i also see a major slant towards Americanising E.F.C. purely because of the potential investments, sponsership deals,, not to mention the "holy grail", a new stadium and all the trimmings by signing MLS players, then i say do it...

American born decent players are the future of E.F.C.,, their cheap and hard working,, the dividends are enormous if we use our already sizeable stateside high profile players....

I know this not a quick fix, its at least a five year plan. Trust me, the future of our club depends on talented American youngsters..

And what about the home grown talent, i hear you cry.. Carroll-35m, Eng, Bale-150m Wls, FFS!!

Thing is, it's like comparing Beckham and Scott Parker. Parker's better these days, but only because Beckham's past it. When comparing them both in their prime Beckham's a higher level.

Cahill in his prime was all over the pitch winning tackles, hassling defences and of course scoring loads of goals. Dempsey's better now like, and has always had better technical ability, but what people seem to have forgotten due to his barren spell is that Cahill used to be one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the league. He was the player that, even over Arteta, all opposition fans would fear most.

Even though they've basically played the same position they're very different. Cahill's always better at what his strengths are, and the same for Dempsey. But if you asked any other Premier League fan who down the years has been better I think they'd say Cahill.

Agreed. Cahill would win that vote IMHO. His head is far and above most all. Dempsey on the other hand offers more...a very poor man's version of Lampard. But I digress...not going to happen

I think we'd pay a fortune for him, and he would be hopeless for us. And he wouldn't want to come here anyway. I'd rather the money went to the bankers or spend it on decorating Bills office. He needs a big fish tank FFS.

While I think he is too old for what we should be looking for, he is quality and would be a great addition. If we could get a permanent deal for Donovan and Drenthe as well we could have a free flowing forward line that I would like to see.

As for him being an American - come on guys! I don't care about the nationality of our players as long as they are good and we have a core group of British players in the team and don't turn into Arsenal.

Dempsey has scored 10 in his last 11 and Scored 12 premier league goals last year and we can t decide on taking him? Ahead of Cahill who has scored 1 in a year, Saha who has nt scored since doomsday etc.......Anyway - no way we ll get him, would be a fee involved and wages - so out of the question. He is better than Landon of sho

Never happen - anyway, he's good, but not that good. If he was superstar material he has had ample opportunity to jump out of Fulham.
