Player Valuation: £40m
Arsenal must be laughing all the way to the bank. £7m for a left back in the last year of his contract, who isn't even very good, and they have a ready-made (and much better) replacement waiting in the wings with Kieron Gibbs. It benefits us too, because it ends City's interest in Baines.

Clichy's a class player who's had a gash season, with injuries, and didnt want to be there (although he probably wanted a massive wage from Arsenal and they said do one)

Good deal IMO. If we didnt have Baines and bought him for £7mill I'd be well chuffed.

They were never going to get Baines...not for the money we'd want.

And Gibbs seems proper injury prone.

I think Gibbs would have overtaken Clichy before too long anyway. They won't want to block his progress. Wenger has other priorities.Anyway his philosophy is to buy low sell high. He'd never make a profit on Baines.

Oh defo. Gibbs will get thrown straight in.

Bit of a gamble IMO as his positional sense is shocking and he loves getting forward than back...and for a Arsenal defence that leak goals, is that what he wants do?

I've never rated Clichy. I think he's a poor French international full back. That amount of money for a player with just 12 months to go is well over the top. Gibbs is 21 now, so it's the right time for him to break through. It seems like consecutive metatarsal breaks have hindered his development so far.

It's sink or swim time for him. He'll learn on the job. Wenger loves his full backs to get forward. Clichy never really offered anything when he overlapped for me. I think he sees their frailties as more that they're outmuscled, especially from set pieces. £7m is a hefty down payment on Dann, Cahill or Jagielka.

Gibbs will come through next season and probably become a better left-back than Clichy, 7mil is great business for someone with a year left on their contract

So this means City have Kolarov, Clichy and Bridge. Ok so it looks like Bridge is a gonner, but I am a bit surprised because Lescott can play well there, and would allow for loads of rotation because of all the centre backs - Lescott already mentioned, Richards, Kompany, Toure, Boateng, Boyata.
Of Clichy, I recall him being a quick lad, so if he can rampage up and down the left to support Silva then City will be doing alright.

Never saw why Clichy was so rated i always thought he was awfull - poor signing by City.

Must be what a good 60 mill on left backs with Brigde, Lescott, Koralov, Clichy - Teds.
