Clapping Naismith

Imagine actually caring enough about us clapping a goal. Hardly the worst crime.

It has happened for years, I remember schmeichel scoring a volley at the Gwladys Street End and being clapped as he ran back down the pitch.

Its all about the context. Obviously you wouldn't clap if someone scored a ripper in the last minute of a cup final but once the emotions die down you would appreciate how good it was.

It wasn't as if it was Dixie or some great former hero returning to a final hurrah , it was a jocko albino who wasn't fit to lace Varadi's boots! What's happened to us?

I caught the clap in Clapham on my way to see Clapton in Clacton.
What's the big problem clapping Naismith?. He gave his all for us, and seems a decent fellow off the pitch as well. A person more deserving a round of applause would be hard to think of.

The fella busking in Huyton village today deserved more of an applause

Brother, do you remember the great Brain Labone (probably the greatest Evertonian) could you imagine him cherishing a winners medal knowing he deliberately cheated. On the other hand it would take pride and place in someone like Phil Thompson / Emlyn Hughes trophy cabinet. To me winning is important but how you win is more so.

Maybe you should take your lad across the park if you carve and desire to win at all cost is eating you up so much.

Just a note on Maradona the history books will show all is success but have you seen the bloke lately.
A degenerate junking with his reputation in tatters.

Karma at it's finest
Did you cheer when we survived relegation on the final day of the season against Wimbledon? Anders Limpar 'won' us a penalty by diving , replays showed the defender to be nowhere near him. Who knows what would've happened to us if we'd been relegated.

@tommye and @The Mighty Quint both threadbanned for 3 days.

Might have been a better idea just to close the thread.
It has already been established that those applauding did so as a sign of respect for Naismith's lack of 'celebration'
Some (incredibly in my personal view) feel "embarrassment" as they appear to believe that fellow Evertonians were cheering the fact that Everton conceded a goal.
26 pages of infighting, now THAT is embarrassing.

Falling over in the box hardly compare's to punching the ball in the net... does it?

Anybody else think it was just wrong?

I thought it was very strange and I wouldn't like it to happen again if an ex-player scores against us, clap them on, clap them off by all means, but when they score, sorry, it's wrong.

Slightly embarrassed me if I'm honest.

Said the same at the time and got roundly slated by fans around me. It's completely unjustifiable to clap an opposition goal. Feels very touristy, like Madrid fans for Ronaldinho's second. The kind of weird act you can imagine Kopite's doing and claiming it makes them super fans.

That said, Naismith definitely deserved clapping at full time or when his name was read out..
