Hardly a new thing though, it seems to have been like that for years now.

Many of the shops have had Christmas stuff since August over here, even before the Halloween rubbish started being stocked at the start of September.

Bombard the public with Christmas ads, so it’s subliminally lodged in their mind and this causes people to start buying stuff.
The ads will stop for a bit soon and then start again in ernest, late Nov / early Dec.

One more benefit of retirement...not having to attend these tedious events.
I much prefer a nice quiet meal with family and friends than the forced 'fun' of a night with some idiots, not all by any means, with whom one is expected to enjoy 'the Christmas spirit ' i.e listen to drunken shouting and whinging all night while trying to remain calm and reasonable.
May I should go back to the oldies thread

To be fair these are Xmas dinners in the pub on a lunchtime with the Old Ladies I am a Home Help for, the youngest one is 77 the oldest is 89 so hopefully no drunken anticsOne more benefit of retirement...not having to attend these tedious events.
