Some of the best food in China is in Guangzhou. Dim Sum originated from the region and is just fantastic - still served out of trolleys at your table.

Wow, sounds great - what advice do you want? Just fire away

just the man I wanted :)

I've no idea what clothes to pack, its summer so I assume its going to be hot *irons speedos* but rainy, right?

What are the chicks like?

Which language do they speak in these areas? I always like to learn at the bare minimum bar lingo and please and thank you, goes a long way!

Thanks people

There is a hooters in bejiing.

Get a chinese person to write the word for chicken etc and take it with you otherwise you are struggling looking at the menu only in chinese characters.

If you are tall or have a beard the chinese will laugh and point at you.

Enjoy, mate. We'll need stories after.

Stories is why you do what you do, you know.

Haha oh I know this mate! I have plenty already but I'm sure this tours going to be an adventure. It's an Irish company so I'm guessing it's going to be a thirsty one :)

Yes pack light as it will be pretty hot and as you say can be quite wet, particularly in the South.

I have no desire to incriminate myself re the chicks but they do love westerners (Gwailo) :)

Languages: Mandarin is the official language of China, is very difficult in my experience to learn, but with your musical ear you may find it easier than I ever have. Different parts of China though have different dialects

Guangzhou - mainly Cantonese spoken
Xiamen - predominantly Hokkien spoken
Shenzen - Mandarin
Zhongshan - very diverse with several local dialects, but Mandarin widely understood
Zhuhai - Mandarin or Cantonese
Shanghai - Mandarin
Tianjin - Mandarin
Qingdao - local dialect, home of Tsingtao brewery
Bejing - Mandarin

Hello - formal: Nin Hao informal Wei!
Good morning - zǎoān
Good night - wǎnān
Cheers (when drinking) Gan bei!
Thank you - xiè xie, pronounced syeh-syeh
Good bye - zai jian
