Transfer Rumour Che Adams

Che Zach Everton Fred Adams will help to keep us in the PL until we move. That’s our goal.
He has scored roughly 1 in 4 playing in teams like Birmingham City and Southampton. When he does this for us it turns some of our draws into wins. If he helps to turn 3 points into 9 points, 4 points into 12 points or 5 points into 15 points he is well worth it.

It’s just a shame we couldn’t get that free loan for a season for Haaland done now (but we did reject giving him a trial when he was still in Norway because he couldn’t head the ball)…

Maupay scored goals before he come here.

I think this is a decent take;

There are so many things that make it tricky to get a 'proven' big numbers striker.

The biggest one is obviously cost- if we were in for a Premier League player that upwards of 10 goals plus a season you're looking at mega money.

The next has to be players looking at it and thinking if Calvert Lewin is fit he probably plays, they either have to be up for the challenge or willing to possibly play second fiddle.

Also coming to a team that are frequently in a relegation battle.

Maupay was signed as an alternative to DCL, a different option to what we had but lets be honest hes been a big disappointment and doesnt work as any option in this team.

Im open minded about Adams being a similar style to DCL. Hes strong and can hold the ball up, not bad in the air not lightning quick but definitely not slow.

I know hes not the fashionable shiny up and coming foreign kid that the fan boys want but maybe hes that option that fits the system rather than a player that might have talent but either cant cut it in the Premier league or doesnt work in our side.

…..it’s clearly working very well in our search for a striker.

The irony is, about 20 posters on GOT (brickies, postmen, white collar workers et Al) forecast we’d end up with Che Adam’s when the window opened. Thelwell on big bucks appoints Sargeson on big bucks and we put in a bid for Che Adams two games into the season :celebrate:
We signed a 19 year old striker from Portugal already. Forgotten him ?

If not that, hopefully he can make a modest difference to make keep us in the league before the last home game of the season.

We don't like it, a lot of fans dont like to admit it, but it's all about staying in the league for us right now.

We get through this season and next summer with the 3 year cycle of FFP we can actually go out and spend money.

This summer was always going to be a struggle.

Ok, it might not be the most exciting signing and you can also question why it's taken so long to occur, but if he does join it does appear that we're finally targeting played that fit in a system.

Remember how Marcus Bent fitted for us?

If he does join, how about giving the guy a chance and supporting him in making it work. Hopefully he'd give attacks a focal point and the team as a whole will be better

I refuse to pander to this narrative everyone has of writing him off immediately.

He is probably our option D in reality.

Disagree. Gnonto, like Chermiti now and Onana last year, is being brought in as a player with a high ceiling that will be flogged to the highest bidder in 2 seasons. It’s a model we should have been following long before now.

Adams is a stopgap player for the here and now until the above bears fruit.
He'll be on a four year contract. Not sure how that's a "stopgap".

And again there is no guarantee they will be the answer either . We have signed a young striker so maybe he's the answer.
I'm not defending the club all..it's ran terribly and this is the outcome.
But I'm also realistic to know it's not goin to change either as the same people run it
I fully accept what you are saying , but that does not mean it is right or we should like it.
Every player is a gamble but this lads track record is no better than Maupays.

Also also yet another player we will be stuck with if it doesn't work out.
Lessons have not been learned.

We get through this season and next summer with the 3 year cycle of FFP we can actually go out and spend money.

This summer was always going to be a struggle.

It's not FFP that's currently crippling us, it's a lack of funds. With Usmanov gone, Moshiri has pumped his money into the stadium - it'll be years before we're able to spend big fees again (see Arsenal and Tottenham transfer records during new stadium builds).

@Eggs took an interest in "moffi the toffee" when we were linked last summer -- also to El Bilal Toure.

As you can see from the link, he went on loan with an obligation this season.

So we'd have had him last season (instead of Maupay) and be paying for him this season (instead of Maupay + Adams).

Add the €8mil ish for El Bilal (who can also play right wing) and we'd be set.
And if he turned out to be rubbish you would be complaining about that too.

"Why did we buy him; what a waste of money"...
