Transfer Rumour Che Adams

There are so many things that make it tricky to get a 'proven' big numbers striker.

The biggest one is obviously cost- if we were in for a Premier League player that upwards of 10 goals plus a season you're looking at mega money.

The next has to be players looking at it and thinking if Calvert Lewin is fit he probably plays, they either have to be up for the challenge or willing to possibly play second fiddle.

Also coming to a team that are frequently in a relegation battle.

Maupay was signed as an alternative to DCL, a different option to what we had but lets be honest hes been a big disappointment and doesnt work as any option in this team.

Im open minded about Adams being a similar style to DCL. Hes strong and can hold the ball up, not bad in the air not lightning quick but definitely not slow.

I know hes not the fashionable shiny up and coming foreign kid that the fan boys want but maybe hes that option that fits the system rather than a player that might have talent but either cant cut it in the Premier league or doesnt work in our side.
I agree I think he fits the system, but fashionable he is not. I think for where we are financially and as a proposition for incoming players he is likely the pragmatic choice.

Alot of unfair comparison for Maupa on on here, there's nothing to suggest he will fair the same way. If he comes he has every chance to succeed and score goals.

Funny thing is if we where singing a foreign player from the arse end of nowhere who we had just learned existed 5 minutes ago everyone would be creaming there kecks!

funny how all the stattos go on about his strengths don’t mention his dire goal return which whatever way people want to spin it is the most important thing

You wait all summer then offer £12m for a small, average player in the last year of his contract.

A player with little resale value.

Shall we prepose a toast to Thelwell?

And if he turned out to be rubbish you would be complaining about that too.

"Why did we buy him; what a waste of money"...

Like I did with Onana last summer...whoops. think you picked the wrong poster for that one.

But that didn't answer the situation we're in.

He cost Nice £20mill+loan fee. We've spent that on Chermitti. Which club do you think accepted our payment structure?

Also...IF we're still wanting Dom to be our main striker (which seems to be the case), Moffi wouldn't want to be here to play 2nd fiddle.

More variables at play than just "we should've signed him"

If we had offerered the loan LAST summer with the obligation THIS summer that would have been €2.5mil loan fee LAST summer + €22.5mil this summer.

The loan last summer covered by the first Maupay payment the obligation this summer covered by Adams fees and the 2nd onwards maupay payments.

With El Bilal similarly €8mil last summer would be covered by the Maupay fee.

Either or both and wed have been set for years at CF and RW.

But i am saying THIS summer...where are those similar players available we could go for who have 1-2 seasons experience? Instead of Adams.

You need to pay more attention. He uses the term “PL proven” wherever possible.

I understand it.

We're on the back of our lowest ever Premier League points total.

Two consecutive seasons when we've needed a win on our last home game to avoid the drop.

When the objective is to stay in the league, hopefully more comfortably - you need to guarantee a baseline of performance.

Thinking back to January. Loads wanted the likes of Dango Ouattara in January (£20m to Bournemouth) or Georginio Rutter (36m to Leeds).

The margins are small, we've lost the allowance to 'gamble', or allow the time for players to develop.

Hard working, awkward to play against, and someone who will hold the ball up and allow other players (McNeil, Doucoure, Danjuma, Harrison, possibly Gnonto, who knows, maybe even Dele) the opportunity to score.

For a reasonably low up front fee, it could be similar to the Marcus Bent signing. Not the 1 we necessarily all want, but if he works for the team, thats the most important thing. And hes much better option than Maupay.

For 12/15mil we should be able to get a lot less terrible

Nah, nonsense. That's buttons now.

What striker are we getting that vastly improves us for £12/15m?

If I'm Southampton I don't consider £12m because Adams gets you 20 goals in the Championship. He has before, just like Maupay did tbf.

I agree with this view who knows maybe the duchess tactics fit with him

It’s refreshing to see just how many people watch football but don’t understand it at all.
I don't have an issue with people thinking Adams isn't very good. His record is nothing fantastic in the top flight.

But I really do not understand the comparisons with Maupay. One is a strong target man who will hold the ball up and run down the channels to give the side an out ball. The other is a link up play striker who likes to operate within the width of the 18 yard area, and get the ball into feet where he can look to bring others into play.

Their styles are extremely different. And it's obvious what style suits a Sean Dyche team better.

The main issue is that both players lack a bit of quality and composure in front of goal. But we don't have the money to sign proper quality it seems.
