2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Made up he's signed, 2 years is a strange one, there must be more to it than they've told us, perhaps we have an option to extend, or maybe we've got him on a low wage with the promise of renegotiating after the initial 2 years, should his performances warrant it. Anyhow, a very good start to the window.

I'm near certain the 2 years was just what was in the pre-agreed triggering clause.

Could be a few reasons but one might be we didn't really fancy him, but we were forced to play him because of injuries elsewhere, and didn't want to be stuck with him for a long time. Or perhaps the 2 years is on tiny wages and he didn't want to be stuck on that for too long.

Either way I'm sure if this season works out we'll tie him down to a longer one with better wages. Not stressed.

Delighted to have him on a perm regardless, I really like the lad and it cannot be overstated how little 12m gets you these days.

Players like security and guaranteed money. So say he’s on £50k a week, you really think he’d leave £5m on the table if Everton had offered an 4-year deal instead of this 2-year deal?! Only the elite clubs outside of England pay Premier League wages. Plus there’s always the chance of a serious, long-term injury.

So to suggest the length of contract would have been the players choice is bizarre, at best.

Not in my eyes in a year's time the player and agent could well have us over a barrel, let's face it if he does well other teams will be all over him. Maybe that's what the player and his agent want though.

Never know there maybe a minimum transfer fee agreement over the duration and performance bonuses.

So if it does go to a final year and he doesn't sign an extension, every shakes hands on a fee wed accept for him to move. If not, leaves on a free.

Can we as a club afford/attract the sort of players, particularly in his position, that don't drift in and out of games? Name some names that are not already at clubs in a higher category than us. Even the likes of Cherki are off to City.
It's not my responsibility to name the better players.

I've seen Alvaraz and I can see he can have an influence over certain games at certain times. But he's never going to be the quality we need to get us where we want to go. And that's a key position to achieve that.

I'm surprised that we've had an extended period of time with him here and the club have now put their trust in him. That speaks volumes about ambition for me...or lack of.
