He's barely played in his position, either, instead thrown out on the left.

I want to see him in Doucs position.
The way Moyes is making it seem is like a straight choice between keeping Doucoure or Alcaraz at the club in that central place. I would keep Alcaraz 100% and would let Doucoure go (not keep him on lower wages) but moyes seems to want it looks like keep Doucoure

…presume he said this was the situation during his presser?

I just don’t see it this way because Doucoure isn’t playing as a no10.

Where’s he playing then ?

…certainly not as a conventional no 10. I’d actually say he’s more of a CM who can get alongside the main striker. Alcaraz is a conventional 10, his thought process will be geared to being progressive in possession whereas Doucoure is about getting behind the ball when the team are out of possession.

Alcaraz isn’t playing this Doucoure role. Doucoure is key to the balance of this current side, it’s the reason he plays. It looks like Doucoure is surplus to requirement for next season so if Moyes wants a conventional no10 in his re-build then Alcaraz enters the equation.

I’d say it’s a 4-4-1-1 we play like.

He’s an attacking midfielder, spilt striker, second striker, number 10. Call it what you want but that’s where he plays. He doesn’t play alongside gana and garner, so
He’s not a central midfielder. Yes when we don’t have bal he will drop as the wide players do
Doesn’t make them 2nd full backs.

Also he’s one of the reason we don’t have the ball or can’t keep the ball. We’re also safe so he shouldn’t be key to anything moving forward. There’s the door, Because Moyes won’t last long if he thinks doucoure is what we need next season

…he appears to cover the left channel lots, amazing how often he crops up around Mykolenko yet rarely as much on the other flank. I actually wonder whether it’s the strategy to give Ndiaye more freedom in attacking areas.

I suppose his ‘wingers’ at West Ham are not conventional wide men. It might be his aim for next season, I dare say it’ll become clearer in the summer.

We have already seen what Doucore offers. We have had a good look at him. He doesn't need anymore looks. If Charly is not playing, it is because we are playing chicken with his contract or Moyes doesn't rate him therefore doesn't want to waste the money. I think it was a massive mistake to drop him after the Palace game as we will never know what could have been had he gotten a run of games. I always hear excuses for the manager "you never change a winning team," etc. but that didn't stop Moyes or the excuses. I'll just trust that Moyes had no intention of signing the player as I'd rather believe that than we are playing chicken.

Does it beg the question can our midfield two play without someone like Doucoure.

That said Moyes does like that 8 and half role - Cahill is his way also played that role for us.

…it does beg the question about an Everton midfield 2 being able to play without a Doucoure type but I think it’s even more than that. Real blend and quality on either wing will help, you think of Rolls Royce FBs like Pat VdH and Stevens who could shore-up their flanks and still add attacking flare. It helps solidify the whole balance of the team and maybe allow for a more conventional no10.

Analysing Moyes set-up at West Ham might give us an idea. Will he buy players that fit his system or will he build a system depending on who comes in.

A really interesting summer.
