Similar to my last thread. Sorry if this is boring anyone, but doing a bit of research.

Name a film, book, comic, game, play, etc. that made you cry (or choke up if you are of the more stoic type)? Name the characters involved? State why it was emotional?

Also, for the more braver, name an incident in real life that made you feel the same way...

Gods honest truth the '86 cup final destroyed me and I cried all evening. It honestly felt like a death in the family. I was completely distraught. I don't remember any other incident in my youth affecting me like that.

I remember watching Gallipoli when I was about 14. I cried during those final scenes, and it changed my outlook on war forever. Following those soldiers right through the movie until the completely pointless deaths at the end.

And The Snowman always put a slight downer on Christmas Eve as I used to watch it every year on Channel 4. I guess if I get emotionally involved with a character I cope quite badly in the death scenes.

Catherine Barkley; A Farewell To Arms ; ..The escape - in a rowing boat , the birth , the baby's still-born ,..Catherine hemmorrages and dies ,..

I CRIED LIKE A BABY !!!

Yes I was a little bit too young for the '85 final to really realize how important that game was. '89 was bad, but after Hillsbrough it just did not have the same sting as '86. Well, I was still proper gutted perhaps the same level if I'm honest, but you always remember the first time your heart is broken!!

Strange, Everton losing makes me angry, its the winning that makes me cry.

Its been dry eyes in the neonleon house for a fair bit though.

Yes The farewell to arms scene is moving. The rowing boat. I remember.

When Karenina dies in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. For some reason that hit me hard when I was reading. Floods of tears, about the only time I can think of a book that did that to me. I think the death of something perceived as pure and innocent can do that.

But I'm interested to hear what people come up with.

I remember 'Biko' having a profound effect on me as well.

Films:

My Girl - "He can't see without his glasses!!" just KILLS me everytime, there was never a Culkin character that I hated. I think it's the fact that a then world famous superstar child actor was killed onscreen, there was obviously such a cute innocent chemistry between the two actors too. It's of course a film that will never rank up there with the best, but the funeral scene just ruins me, man!

It's A Wonderful Life - "Everytime a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!"...Happy tears with this one, it's just a film that everyone can relate to, no matter how [Poor language removed] you think things are, they can only get better. Just an incredible film.

I've never cried reading a book, nor have I cried when a family member or close friend has died, which I certainly feel shitty about.

I didn't cry, but ''A child called it'' is a sad book. I saw other people who've read the book cry..

edit : neonleon good thread btw

Only one film has ever made tears of joy fall from my eyes...

The Pursuit Of Happyness.

The bit where him and his son have nowhere to sleep and they are on the bench in the subway. They have to sleep in the toilets and they lock the door. Then someone randomly tries to smash down the door in the middle of the night. You have no idea who it is and never find out. Its the atmosphere and feeling it creates when he's trying to protect his son against unknown assailant...

The tears come at the end when he's offered the job. It's like you went thru the stuggle with him, and you made it thru...

Truly amazing stuff. I hope people have seen it.

I also cried when we won the FA Cup in 1995. Epic.

Sophie Choice is about as heartbreaking as it gets.

Dunno about the film, the book is very moving.

Is that the one where she has to choose which child get's to live because of the nazi's?

Havent seen/read the book but have heard a lot of people talking about it
