Champions League revamp

Was discussed on thetimes podcast - they ran through the finance structure. It's akin to having mortgage approval, it's only a loan when you buy the house

I personally think you're probably right, but none of us have read contracts or were part of the process so none of us really know. Not enough to speak in such definitive terms anyway.

Can't PL just ask the 6 clubs (well all clubs) to sign a contract which states they won't join any other leagues or discuss joining other leagues without prior approval from ### of PL clubs. Doing so will result in £xxxx amount paid to the PL and xxxx amount of points deducted.

If they don't sign then publicly come out and say they clearly don't care about the fans. If they do then happy days.

I think they will do that before the start of next season.

I think four clubs might reject it and break away.

I think we can realistically say that the courts aren't going to enforce 1/12 of the prospective revenues (or loan amount, if the funds had not yet been paid) as a penalty clause. The whole thing was doomed the moment HM's government basically threatened to destroy the English clubs as a going concern by withholding the work permits, whether the English clubs held to the contract or not.

Perhaps your courts work differently than ours and I'm off base, but I'd be very surprised.
