Champions League revamp

.....I wonder if it’ll cost these clubs to get out of their ESL contracts. Not reading anything about this, so perhaps the large scale withdrawal means the whole thing is dead and it costs nothing.

Smelling of Roses.

25 points deduction next season.

They didnt think much of the league, and were willing to bin it off, so let them all scrap to stay in it.

alright here’s the deal folks. Deduct them 100 points next season and let the so called top 6 now bottom 6 scrap to avoid relegation. Should be fun.

Thought I'd wake up feeling overjoyed today but feeling more sick about it all. Football is currently on its arse and the comments from the Super League show us they'll be back, the comments from the scum 6 show us they've had their pocket money taken away. It's not over this.

Hopefully Everton and the other leader's of this country will push hard for sanctions.

That would be the ideal scenario but given how much of a farce the whole thing has been I wouldn’t be surprise if it was nothing but a gentlemen’s agreement type deal and nothing more.

Well now you are just making things up because it doesn't say anything of the sort. It says 'Except with the prior written approval of the board, during the season a club shall not enter or play its senior men's first team in any other competition other than blah blah blah.

Why say enter or play if you only mean one of them. Enter or Play are 2 different things and those 6 clubs entered into an agreement to play their men in an unapproved competition while a season was still running. They broke rule 9 and it can legally be interpreted to be that way with the way the rule has been written.

Are you a solicitor ?

There was no start date for this new competition, for there to be any contravention you’d have to say “it was going to be played during this season of the PL so breaks our rules”. They can’t say that because a start date was never agreed. You can’t punish an organisation over a future hypothetical rule breach because you’ve no idea if the Prem would even still be in existence. The head of the thing was on record saying it would start once agreement was reached with the governing bodies.

Aside from this, there is case law which backs up the idea that such penalties in an attempt to discourage new competitions would be seen as anti competitive. The European courts have upheld challenges against other sporting organisations who have tried to prevent the start up of new competitions.

The footballing authorities will reward them further for staying then when it happens again will be like ‘how did this happen?’.

You lot would have all killed each other before we even landed. :p

6 points ain’t enough for me

We have to be careful how many pounds of flesh do we want. Any massive punishment will see them start it all back up again. As @MikelsGoat said last night it should be weighted in favour of changing the rules that will see them screwed over should they try again. For example, have it in stone that you'll get immediate 40 point deductions, thrown out of any current cup competition and any player that plays in this league will immediately have their registrations cancelled and they will be unavailable to be selected for their countries. When it comes to contract renewal time you can be sure they will be adding clauses to protect themselves from it and all that should mean the clubs have to go down the official route to try and change.

JW Henry has released a videoblog saying sorry, i won't post that crap but it's on twitter. If you want me to post it I can but it will make your ears bleed.

i think I know what you mean, it’s like people saying Christmas needs changing. It’s fine the way it is.

I do think some things can be done better. But if we’re talking about league structures and the football pyramid I think it’s fine. The only thing that’s problematic is the amount of money at the top and how hard it is for small teams to do well. One thing the Gary Nevilles and Jamie Carraghers didn’t get quite right is while there is competition as in 11v11 each match, the 11 man city get to put out is way better that it almost feels like the result is inevitable. I think equality measures such as the top clubs helping out lower leagues not in direct competition with them would bring up the standard and give them a better chance. In turn this would create better players that would also filter up to mid table clubs like a Southampton or Leeds in the prem.

Absolutely things can be done better. The money spent on players and agents is obscene for a start.

Let's look at Burnley, for example. It's a town that's pretty poor. It's a town that loves it's football and it's club. Burnley have been living the 'dream' over the last few years, raking in hundreds of millions.

Where has this money gone? Has it rejuvenated their facilities and helped their town become a better place? Has it heck. It's gone into the pockets of players and agents, mainly.

A rule forcing Premer League clubs to spend x% annually on community and/or infrastructure development would be great imo. Not a token gesture, make it 25% of tv money.

Wage cap - you can pay players whatever you want, but it cannot exceed 75% of tv revenue. We all know that the more you're on tv, the more money you get, so the kopites, for example, would still be operating on a 'bigger' level than Southampton, for instance. This allows the owners, to have their noses in the trough also, as merchandise and matchday revenue is basically theirs.

There's many, many ways the game can get better, but that's not what these people want.

Every action has consequences. They need to be made an example out of. They didn’t go into this unwillingly. They went behind the backs of all of their peers and organisations intentionally not bothered if their actions affected other clubs or the footballing world as a whole. A telling off and a threat for future behaviour doesn’t do it for me. I get the footballing world is different but anything but a massive points deduction and fine is a disgrace.

The undertones yo all these statements from the Gobshite Six, and the Super League itself, suggests they’re still after more money.

Heavy sanctions and punishments must be handed out now otherwise they’ll just do it again.
