Guile and a good bit of snide, what I’d give for that in the last few seasons.

There weren't many gettable players that I thought Everton missed out on in the summer, but Seri was one of them. He looks an excellent footballer (lovely assist for Schurrle's goal last week, in addition to his Goal of the Month strike), and I still can't believe that he ended up at Fulham.

Moyes undid a lot of his own good work by hitting the panic button and packing the middle of the park with defenders when things got tough, and we've continued in much the same vein ever since, with Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce all preferring a safety first double-crab pairing. It looks solid on paper, but in reality it just heaps more pressure on what is effectively a back-six struggling to bypass the opposition press.
Until the club starts holding players to higher technical standards, and stops tolerating middle of the road cloggers in key areas of the pitch, we'll continue to watch them labour against anyone who denies space in behind for Walcott and Richarlison to run into. I'm hoping that Bernard will be the player to finally replace Pienaar in the final third - ideally at the expense of Sigurdsson - but even if that turns out to be the case, there will still be limits on what can be achieved for as long as Schneiderlin and Gana remain first choice.

I think Pereira at Man United could be one to keep an eye on. He looks very tidy, and is far too young for Mourinho's liking.

What do you mean by this mate:

"with Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce all preferring a safety first double-crab pairing. It looks solid on paper, but in reality it just heaps more pressure on what is effectively a back-six struggling to bypass the opposition press".

Martinez played Barry as a third CB when we played the ball out. the 2 conventional CBs split and we'd play between them until a pocket of space was found and we'd then work through the lines.

I can't recall with any frequency times where we tried to pass the ball out and struggled to cope. Osman messed up with Howard conceding a penalty - against Soton at home I think?

But the idea of having a holding midfielder dropping avoids CBs being panicked as there is always an extra man. If a team presses high we just used to punt it.

So with absolute respect, I have no idea what you're talking about here.

Could you give some examples? Apologies in advance if i've got confused somewhere and i'm misinterpreting.

We missed I-G-G massively on Saturday. His energy was sadly lacking.

I just cannot stand 4-2-3-1 to the point I hate it.

Sigurdsson could have played centrally with Schneiderlin on Saturday with Lookman one side & Walcott on the other. DCL & Tosun up top. It was Huddersfield ffs.

Sigurdsson is a VERY good footballer & captain of his national team.

One day, just one day, we’ll go 4-4-2. Tosun & DCL can both head a ball & have physicality ...... let’s use what we have.

Not rocket science.
Except a 4 man midfield will very rarely win the battle against a 5 man midfield which is why no-one plays a 4 man midfield any more.
Not rocket science
