I'd stick Duffy in, he seems to be playing well for the u21's and also scores a few which would be welcome to the first team. Why buy when we can use what we've got. Also I think if Duffy doesn't get a decent first team chance next season we may see the back of him which I believe would be a great shame

Lescott for me for the many reasons people have already stated.

IMO moyes will not partner Duffy and jags. He likes a lefty and a righty. Duffy will almost certainly be jags back up or out on loan.

As someone else said wouldn't suprise me if we hang on to Heitinga and let him go on a free next summer or sell in the jan window giving Duffy the chance to go out on loan. Mind you Hibbert can play CB as emergency to cover a Duffy loan so maybe not...

really hope duffy gets his chance , when he came in last season he looked a great prospect and for a player of his age seemed to play beyond his years . he has been the stand out player for the u21 and looks nailed on to get the player of the year for them.what worrys me though is a recent moyes comment about rather playing a young goalie than a cb which is alarming for me.

I would love someone at the back with pace who can put their foot on the ball, someone who can claim to be a footballer first rather than a defender first, when was the last time we had a CB like that, Ferrari maybe? injuries seem to curb his chances though
controversial but maybe it was Materazzi

maybe guessing as a total lack of organisation across the back four is always difficult to understand when its been there before. just don't want to risk him coming back if everything that happens has left a bad taste among the players. If they felt anything like how I felt after that game then it is a big risk. I liked Lescott at the time but even then felt they were taken the second best of our centre halves. its a partner for Jags we should be looking for and if he is happy playing again with Lescott then will ignore my gut

Its was a nightmare game for everyone, I think its hard to argue his off pitch situation had an effect but if they blame him for that performance then they are very hypocritcal, plus there are pletny there, Mirallas, Jelavic, Naismith etc who weren't even there then.
Also if they welcomed Pienaar back and not Lescott again I don't see how that would be right and the team seem to welcome anyone into the family to be honest, its what we are famous for.. and something we'll lose when Neville goes.
I am sure he wouldn't of fallen out with everyone and still has friends at the club that would love him back, doubt we could afford him though.
Your right about his quality though, I've always said he wasn't our best player or even our best CB, but the two together were the Baines/Pienaar of central defenses and I would welcome that back any day.

Genuine question - why do people literally forget Heitinga in a heart beat and focus on signings and young untried and untested Duffy? Dont get me wrong, I like Duffy, think hes decent.

Johny Heitinga has, in total contrast to last year, had a stinker of a season in a lot of aspects. I just think he was a bit Sh!t on this season to be honest by Davie Moyes.

I am a huge DM fan before this defers into a totally different point/debate altogether, however consider the following:

Johny Heits has a BELTER of a season last year. Went on more games than any other season and literally couldnt believe some of the performances he was putting in compared to what appeared to be his normal - 'meh' - displays.

He looked like he finally got it, Tweeting like a mad man love for the club and all that etc etc

So he comes back after pre-season and is dropped. Again. Yes there may have been reasons like Moyesy loves a leftie, or he was behind on his fitness, but if i had been playing like he was, consistently, I would also feel that I would at the very least deserve a run of games before being benched.

I understand the first game was Utd, Distin is alot quicker, but all im saying is that it is understandable why Heitinga would have been narked.

Ill get to my point (apologies)... Heitinga is a very good defender. Hard as nails and loves a tackle. Good passer of the ball (when Gibson and Osman play CM which stops him playing 'that' long pass to any blue shirt 60 yards away) and reads the game well enough to make his lack of pace less of a problem.

Stick or Twist, im saying stick. Play him and massage that ego. When he feels good, he takes out his uncontrollable hulk like anger on the opposition, ask Ashley Cole.

"hard as nails and loves a tackle".....batten down the hatches lad!

Very good player, as is Duffy. Personally, I think Sylvain easily has another season at least - fittest, strongest, fastest of the four CB's we have.

i agree he's been wrongly treated by moyes - how has he played so many games for us this season? he has had plenty of chances this season to nail down the CB position again, but he's been appalling, i mean that performance vs villa was utterly terrible. he's had 1 good season in how many years here? he's a decent defender, but too much of a [Poor language removed] for my liking, for everton standards. He may look hard as nails, but on the pitch he's been the total opposite, especially this season.

Sadly, i don't think he'll be gone in the summer, it would be good for both party's, i'd rip someone's hand off if they offered £4m tbh, sadly we'll be losing him on a free next season more than likely.

Duffy should be getting some gametime IMO, seen him so many times for the ressies, not to mention the times he's played for the first team and played very, very well (injury crisis meant he played 4/5 games last season?.. he didnt look out of place at all).

Unbelievable threat from Set pieces too. scored 6/7 goals for u21's this season

Bruno Martins indi, Stefan de Vrij, Eric Dier, Inigo Martinez. Honestly I think we need a Shakeup at CB. I'd show distin and johnny the door and Buy Bruno Martins indi and Dier.

The problem is IMO that jags and Johnny are fighting for the same posistion. Moyes prefers one of those partnering Distin for various reasons (being a lefty, speed, height ect). So unless there is a injury to Distin they won't be played together which tbf jags and Johnny has never worked.

Now again this is my opinion and I imagine moyes too... Jags is better than Johnny. When Heitinga was on form last year and jags was injured moyes stuck with Heitinga even when jags was fit again. To me that was not ****ting on Johnny. But he always had in his mind that jags would be No.1 choice again this season rightly so IMO and hence the reason he was probably trying to move Johnny on in the summer.

Johnny has a chip on his shoulder that he's the best CB and should be playing (wasn't we supposed to be a stepping stone for Johnny..his words??) and thus he spits his dummy out if not playing instead of knuckling down and waiting for his chance. I personally don't think he'd be a guaranteed starter for any of the top 10 teams, jags on the other hand could arguably be a starter for any of the top 6.

Johnny needs to move on this summer. Bring lescott in, and Duffy will become cover for jags and Distin cover for lescott.
