Guess so - even if the wages were lower you'd have thought he'd be looking for a longer term contract so he is better off overall - out of contract here in summer, isn't he ?

So wait out his Everton contract and then sign the longer term contract he's looking for somewhere else in the summer. No point in him losing out on a few months Everton dosh.

Whatever his qualities as a player or lack of them, this is one of the worst examples of our disastrous signing policy, as well as a classic case of (all) clubs paying vast salaries on long contracts to people who are not good enough to perform at their jobs. Surely someone can devise a contract clause which gives the employers an escape hatch in extreme case such as this?
