That should be it moving forwards, an option to purchase the shirt without a sponsor. A great move by the club, one which I'm sure will go down well with the fans who strongly opposed gambling companies on the shirt.

I do wonder how that would impact future sponsorship deals though, as that's surely a key part of the contract - having the sponsor's logo printed on all replica kits.

They never had a choice.

It wont happen again in future unless the same unique situation presents itself.
 
What do you mean? There is no rule to offer a sponsorless shirt, is there?

Or you mean they realise the strong sentiment of the supporters and felt it will sell a lot more if they make an additional offering?

Premier League Central Register of Club Gambling Related Agreements Clause 3.5.2 of the code: “Ensuring that mechanisms exist to enable supporters to have the ability to purchase adult replica kits that do not include gambling sponsorship logos, in the event that they are not otherwise available for purchase.”
