Anyone ever used We Buy Any Car ? Got a Daewoo Matiz car i need to scrap, went to a few yards who are all saying about 40 quid, the price is well low at the mo, but We Buy are saying £100. Thing is the MOT is up on Saturday and it needs a bit of work doing, brake pads, suspension arm, all of which is £££ and not worth it, are there quotes legit?

Their quotes are based on the bottom trade value for your car, regardless of the fact that it may be mint. They also rely on your description ie no damage. If a rep turns up and your description doesn't match what you said, expect a severe knocking down of value. Give them a go, you've got nothing to loose. Either that or stick it on Gumtree or Ebay etc pronto and advertise it as spares or repair. Someone will always have it as its low insurance, tax etc and the work you're talking about isn't hard to do.

I realize commodity prices have fallen off a cliff lately, but that's insanely low. Really must be no market for junkyard parts on that car, because that's probably how much the metal alone is worth.

Even then, it should be a bit more surely? I got offered 550 lev (200-ish quid) for my car for scrap... I know it was obviously heavier, but I doubt it was a tank compared to the Matiz lol

This isn't mine, but is very similar. I like it a lot, and am not a self-loathing as @Garrick, but I wouldn't class this as boss.

I bloody would!!

Thanks for the advice, seeing WBAC this afternoon, yeah the price is so low on scrap its almost not worth it, they were all saying that only get £18 a ton themselves now?
@COYBL25 never thought of eBay, would of been a good call that, someone who knows about these things could have it fixed up in an afternoon!

Yeah around the same for me. My last car that I was looking to scrap was a Stratus, and the going rate for those was around $400 USD. Ended up selling it private party for $550, guy fixed it up and I still saw it driving around town for another year or so

I certainly enjoy it. 8 years and it's still a good ride; I've got at least 2 more in it before it gets boring, although I'm very interested in EV developments. And I've wanted a wagon (as I've posted in this thread before). This model is discontinued/redesigned now, so I guess mine is/will be a collector's item of sorts, if there is any market for that.

Or, depending on how I like the redesign I could get itchy and trade it in for new.

I didn't scrap it but left it for my mum to do so when she came back, and she managed to sell it to a guy who really liked the chassis/suspension (which is what I liked about it as well) for 1500 lev, which is 3 times the price, and close to what we bought it for in the first place lol

See what WBAC any car say. Have a look in eBay before they come and it'll give you an idea what sort of price one like yours go for. Even if someone only wants it for parts it's worth more than you've been offered for scrap !

Finally got my new logbook through the post for my car which I'm trying to sell. Went to give it a little run last night and the battery is flat lol fecking typical.

My advice to anyone thinking about selling via WBAC is simple - don't!

They operate on a very simple business model. They'll offer you just behind the current auction value of your car. They then try and chip you down further by highlighting minor scratches etc that wouldn't alter the trade value at all on most cars, in order to try and enhance their margin.

They then auction your car and take a slice for doing virtually nothing.

Most dealers use Cap or Glsses guide price platforms to value part exchanges and the price they'll offer you is usually either equivalent or higher than WBAC, plus they won't try and chip you down as hard, as they want to sell you a car!

If you're selling a car without buying another from a dealer then sell retail via Autotrader would be my advice. If you're buying from a dealer just trade it in, take the WBAC valuation with you just to be sure.

Any tips on how to negotiate the best trade/purchase scenario from a dealer? I'm in the US, so don't worry about giving away secrets, I won't be using them against you.

*I don't buy cars often, but typically I start with Edmunds to determine reasonable target values, determine the net, and aim for that. IE, if our van was selling at $32,000 and the trade in value was $15,000, I'm looking for anything in the $17,000 net neighborhood. (I don't get too arsed on sales price, MSRP, etc)

I was slightly put off by Autotrader's fees (tight arse) so I tried Gumtree (which is free to list) to test the water and I've had a fair bit of interest.
