I know Carsley has been a great servant, and against lesser sides he is at home. However, against the bigger teams with the classier midfielders he is left wanting. He is getting on, so a replacement for Carsley is absolutely essential. He was at fault for their first goal and left SWP to wander freely. He did the same in the second half.

In comparison, Mikel up until his harsh red card was patrolling his back 4 much more effectively.

If we are to compete with these type of teams, it doesn't matter if we have Arteta and Pienaar in the side. We need a general, someone who is quick, can tackle, and can pass. For me Cars is very much like Jags, just gets a boot in, but little panache, little thought. Experience is no substitute for pure talent, which he doesn't have.

Must be priority in the summer.

Agree about Mikel but there was a reason why Utd and Chelsea were fighting ove him and he cost twelve million! Im reluctent to write Cars off, ok we will need a replacement at some stage prob the summer, but i think he has another season maybe left in him!

think you need to look at how easily the chelsea midfield and defence took the ball off AJ and mcfadden last night, never anything of note, just strength and speed, it meant the ball kept coming back constantly, and cars simply cant cover every area all the time.

for the swp role, cars was covering him then had to close the ball down, he was to our right of centre (cars) so where was yobo? i know where, with jags and lescott expecting a cross, which cars had gone to close down.

im affixing blame to yobo unfortunately, as the penalty area has to be patrolled by defenders from open play, not midfielders.

great finish though, no saving that.

Well I disagree. Carsley for all his efforts isn't quick enough for the level we are looking at. Ok, so he breaks up some attacks, but then he doesn't have the panache or the intelligence to set up counter attacks.

Plus I don't like it when he marks space and points at other people to do stuff. He needs to be more commanding. Like when Phil Neville bollocked Hibbert for losing his man. Great that someone like that has a voice, maybe Neville could do it for a couple more seasons but I prefer him at right back.

We can't cope with Carsley for one more season, we just can't.

The reality of our situation means that Carsley will be around this season, and probably next as well. Against most teams he does a decent job but when compared to the likes of Mikel he obviously isn't in that class. It does seem that midfield is the next area for Moyes to firm up. We have signed some good young players in both defence (Baines, Jags, Gosling etc.) and attack (Yakubu) and midfield will be next on his shopping list.

Carsley is getting on but this season he has been superb.
Last night i thought he played well he seemed to be everywhere to be fair aj and faddy did,nt defend well and i thought cahill was below par and neville is poor in midfield.
I think if we are to progress we do need a player of mikels quality but i,d keep cars for another year

Yeah but not as a the main defensive midfielder. Well I felt Carsley lacks the ability to take us to the next level. Squad player at best.

I actually felt Neville was like a man possessed in the first half. But its all about opinions I suppose.

We all have to agree though, a quality defensive midfielder is what we need. Strange that Fernandes is actually seen as a defensive midfielder. :)

Carsley is great.

But he is much better in a 4-5-1, at the end of the season we should search for his replacement but it is not a priority now as he is doing so well.

Mikel aint nothing special.

Cars is a get stuck in there individual that protects the back four. I feel he has time left on his clock for us. Still we need to prepare not only for the future but for a absence due to injury along the way. This needs to be a number one priority in the next window and we need someone of outstanding class.

Huddlestone is immobile and needs two touches to get the ball under control, you just dont get that time in the Premiership.

Apart from that he's ace, and he's got time to develop.

OK Cars was responsible for the goal, but last night it was like our entire midfield had never met each other before. Pathetic. Cahill was no better than Carsley.
