Sawdust failed me. Nobody say have you tried sawdust.

The scenario.

Two years ago I bought new carpets for the bedrooms, landing and stairs.
It looked fantastic by the way, great job and I was very happy.

Thing is, when discussing the type of carpet I was after I was clear it had to be pet hair friendly and easy to hoover.
I told them I have 5 cats and they are long haired and shed daily.
They recommended a few styles and I picked one.

2 years later. I have regretted it for the last 23 months! The carpets are awful to try and keep clean.
I am talking that I need to hoover about every 3 hours!
Somehow, the fur gets settled into the carpet weave and does not hoover. I have to use a hard bristle brush first and get he fur to the top before it will hoover up.

Next issue. The hoover. I had a Dyson Pet hoover. It hardly touched it. So I bought a Shark Pet hoover, better suction but ineffective against the pet hair.
It also has the added problem of continuously blocking at the base of the hose (caused by the roller brush action) and at the top near the dust chamber.
They are both useless.

Options.
1. Get rid of the cats.
Not going to happen, try again.

2. Change the vacuum cleaner.
No point. They are all rubbish and not designed for pet hair despite the fancy titles the manufacturers give them.

3. Change the carpets. Again.
This is where I am looking to go.
Thing is, I do not think continuing with carpets is going to resolve much.

I am keeping the bedroom carpets.
The BIGGEST issue is the stairs and landing area.

Do you guys know of any practical alternatives or suggestions? I am sure some of you are living this same problem.
Do you know of a real pet hair friendly carpet that is easy to vacuum?
People are saying wood and vinyl to me, but I am not sure it would be 'safe' on stairs and I think it would just look a bit rubbish tbh.

What have you guys tried and what worked?
