So much bedwetting after yesterday. We haven't played well offensively arguably since the initial months of the season, due in large part to the injuries to our main creative outlets. We've managed to grind out wins by keeping things tight and either using set pieces or hitting teams on the break. As Ancelotti said, that's not possible against teams that allow us to set the tempo and so the lack of creativity is shown up.

The fact remains that if you'd offered any of us our current league position in August every one of us would have snapped their hand off. Even Ancelotti himself has said this squad probably isn't a top 4 squad, yet we are still in the top 4.

This.

It’s what you mentioned. We may be in the top 4 but Carlo isn’t blind, he has repeatedly said we’re nowhere near top 4 quality.

ok so now we are all agreed, what’s the plan in jan?

The gap in quality from our 1st XI and squad players is too big. If we had a fully fit James, Digne and Allan tonight I think we win that game.
Agreed, maybe add “100% fit”

a lot of angry blues yesterday, but we need to recognise we were far from full strength. Our starting 11 is very good, but injuries take their toll, we’ve got some utter garbage still coming into the starting lineup.

I think we win that game if keggers plays, his absence highlighted how much we rely on him, not just for defensive organisation, but for his raking balls to DCL.

cup next? Surely Carlo gets players in before our next league game???

Squad depth is massively ruining us this season, the squad is just absolute littered with garbage, We have one of the best first 11 but one of the worst squads in the league and sadly it wont be fixed overnight, West Ham brought on 3 decent subs Yesterday. We are still giving Tosun game time.

We bought on two players ex of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

We're nowhere near the finished article but are still in the mix for a top 4.

The goal is Europe. He's been a miracle worker for some results we've had this season. The losses are needed to show the flaws that were always there.

Win lose or draw... we're in safe hands with Carlo.

‘We have to look forward and keep our belief’.

Confidence is completely shot in most of this squad after years and years of embarrassment and failure. Even more so when the leaders in the team like Allan and James aren’t there. This group should have been tearing out the blocks after 4 wins on a spin but instead one misplaced pass can reduce some of them to a bag of nerves unable to execute simple passes.

Carlo knows he has to nurse this squad through this season as a stepping stone. He cant throw the toys out the pram like some of the fans. We take the loss, we go into the next game and try and get back to winning ways. We don’t want this one bad result to become the classic Everton death spiral where we hit relegation form for two months until we’re out of everything then we start playing ok again when the pressure is off.

Everyone knows this team would like to just throw in the towel, go out of everything and then play up a bit when they’re 12th in March and finish 9th. That’s their default setting that they’ve done season after season. Carlo has to now try and refocus them on winning every game, and even if we lose one to just get straight back on it. It’s a massive mentality shift for players who have been coasting for years.

But, and it is a big but! We aren’t going to achieve that with a midfield combo of Davies and Gylfi, so if Allan is still a long way off, then we seriously need to buy or loan in this window. Gomes isn’t the answer either, he’s looked better off the bench.
