I think whilst the RS haven't fluked it, they've really been fortuitous in the way that the three main title contenders of seasons past in City, Chelsea and United have all changed their manager.
With City, their form went with Aguero being a massive crock, as Negredo has only really played well with him, and Dzeko never gets enough time to gel with the team, and well that's huge.
Chelsea have the same problem, they concede rarely, but Eto'o, Torres and Ba just aren't good enough, (imagine saying that 10 years ago!), they need a proper goalscorer, and well Mourinho hasn't got that.
United, David Moyes. Case Closed.
The key to the teams around Liverpool there, is that they have no goalscorers, in Suarez and Sturridge, they've combined for 50 goals between them, plus assists, which in effect has them where they are. Hate them all you want, but their total attacking football, has clearly paid off for them this season, but i genuinely think it's a one off, you've had teams like Cardiff, just go full out and attack them, get three goals for their troubles, but as their attack is so strong, i find that the dodgy defence being exposed, is easily covered over. When City and Chelsea find their feet, they'll be too strong for Liverpool, even if it is next season. Which is why i think, No, we can't win the league any time soon, but there's no reason why we cannot lay the foundations for a regular crack at the top 4, Arsenal have the CL as their platform, and if that goes, they'll be in trouble, so should we qualify for the next two CL's (the latter the key), we could build a solid foundation, which we can build and then, we could look to reassess. It's worth noting that, we still have 3 loan players, who are key for us, and we'll be lucky to have two of them next season.
Either way i'm enjoying the ride, and so be it, so lets finish this season first, and then get ourselves a few beers down in the Camp Nou, next ay!
