Can We Really Moan?

Well ok, if he gets the credit for last season what are we even debating his stature as an Everton manager for now then?

He's quite obviously someone who commands the highest respect.

Let's just relax and see how he gets us back up the table again.

That's a deal then.

Nice bit of spin

It a results business and he's currently not getting results. He's only got a finite time to prove that he's capable of turning around this awful league season, starting at Hull on Thursday.

We've been a complete shambles this season

You dont have a clue what that is. I dont either. But we look at the FACTS and they are this: we're not playing well to say the least, but we've still only dropped as low as 12th. There's not going to be a stampede to see Martinez down the road, no matter what a handful of loud and unrepresentative dissidents on football forums want.

Their little uprising is inconsequential. It'll be put down completely in the coming weeks and they wont be heard again for a good while longer - until their next opportunity to destabilise the club comes about again.

That's how this thing rolls out now. Make no mistake about that.

Who's trying to destabilise the club though ?

lol

So match going fans saying that they're pissed off with his dull tactics and awful team selections are being put down as destabilising militants? Hahahahaha even by your standards that's a shocker

No, you wilfully misquote me. I said an unrepresentative bunch of self styled dissidents who are looking for the manager's head. How does that translate in your world to any Everton supporter who makes their criticism of performances vocal?

Even if they're calling for his head, that comment is still a shocker.

Match going fans have a right to their opinion and some want him gone, that's an undeniable fact. To label these Blues as destabilising militants simply because you don't concur with their view is arrogance personified

Let's get to seasons end and see where we are. I can't help but feel that we're going to do something crazy like win the FA Cup.

What as fans we are asking for, is for the situation to be addressed and put right.
This may involve him getting tough and reading the riot act to those that are letting Him, Us & EFC down. There are players that quite simply haven't performed this season in comparison to last...
the midfield hasn't been doing it from taking it off the defenders all the way through to supplying the striker, 1 seems to have got a contract and stopped performing, another many are saying wants to go to Arsenal & if true do we want ANYONE that doesn't want to be here ? Not quite sure whats going on with Ross but certain it will correct itself.
McGeady.... not good enough, quite simple.
Lukaku has been having to do what he's not used to and what isn't his strength, kinda like Jelavic was having to, he's a finisher and to finish he needs supply.
Our corners are more of an advantage to the opposition than they are to us.
Goalies cant catch.. I asked Big Nev yesterday "Do they not teach them to catch any more ?" he answered "It Appears not." 1 of them doesnt dive either.

Sure we've had problems with injuries to 'key' players & 2 or 3 games here and there can affect form, had seriously poor refereeing affect results... they reckon it evens itself out over a season, well if it does we are in for some turn around in fortunes if thats the case.

We are carrying few now as well that will be on big money and have been left out due to form, time to cut some losses there as a lot of it has looked down to their age. It'll at least free up wages to bring others in even if just on loan.

Strangely I agree with most of what DaveK said. I think it's safe to say most of us were okay with Martinez's tactics when we were winning games last season. It seems teams have figured out that we struggle if they press us high up the pitch, and defend compactly once we're in the opposing half, and many on here are criticizing Martinez for failing to adapt his tactics to something that every team we face appears to be doing.
But the high-press/compact defense style of play isn't really conducive to scoring goals against us unless our players make individual errors; incidentally we made very few individual errors as a team last year and have made several almost every single game this year. Last year we were able to pass the ball out the back even when teams pressed us, this year we can't, and for me that's on the players and not the manager. We're also failing to break down teams when they're defending in their own box (I too am frustrated with the balls played into Naismith / Lukaku that are then passed back to midfield), but it's hard to draw teams out of the box when they can so reliably depend on our own mistakes to create goals.

I'm not saying Martinez is perfect, I think he has miscalculated several times this season, and I still blame him for not bringing in a world class centre half in the summer. But I think he's more adaptive than people recognize. He's changed his usage of substitutions across the season to improve their impact, and managed the squad decently at a time where we've been horrifically plagued with injuries and loss of form. I thought he used Baines effectively in the left-centre-mid / attacking mid role against Newcastle, even though it didn't work out on the day.

To the original question, there are definitely things we can moan about, because we've lost 8 games ffs. We desperately need to sort out the defensive errors, and we need to figure out (to borrow RM's words) "clever" ways to break down the opposition in the final third. But there's a difference between moaning and blaming, and while it's natural to try to blame someone or something when things don't go our way, the tendency is rarely to ascribe blame in a logical or correct manner.

We've still got half a year left and an outside chance at the Champions League via Europa, COYB!!

Club management: It's Kenwright's fault.
Team management: It's second season syndrome.
Players: These cowards need to start rewarding a manager who's gone out of his way to protect them.
You have to be roberto martinez or you are living with him
