Reminds me of an imperfection in the German language: the numbers 9 & 0 and also 2 & 3 sound phonetically similar, there's a workaround for 2 & 3 ("zwo" instead of "zwei") but not really for the "neun" and "null".
English has it down pat: each number between 0-9 is phonetically unique on its own, so no issues when taking down numbers.
