Calm down

Remember when Stones did the Cruyff turn in his own box and then gestured to the crowd to relax? It's probably a perfect metaphor for Roberto's brand of football.

I do believe that he's in the process of building something astonishing. We've got the core of Stones, Barkley, Deulofeu and Lukaku. And then Funes Mori, McCarthy, Besic and Cleverley are yet to hit their peak. Niasse is in that same age group too , but he's an unknown quantity. And I'm sure that there will be more top drawer recruits in the summer. Possibly even Yarmolenko?

Beyond that we have players like Browning, Galloway, Garbutt and McAleny. And beyond that Ledson, Dowell, Leandro etc.

We've had a taste of European football and we're becoming increasingly consistent in the cup competitions. We just need that extra bit of luck.

It has taken time for players to adapt to Roberto's possession-based game but the long-term result is that we'll have a team who are incredibly slick. I remember seeing a clip of Bayern going to City and the side from the Etihad just couldn't get the ball off them. We're already seeing signs of that but there will be times when the opposition are happy to sit back and let us have the ball and we need to find a way of breaking them down.

Our side is young enough that they could learn to win big competitions together and dominate the game at home and abroad during their peak years. Fantasy? Perhaps. But we've shown that we're a match for anyone even in our raw state. If we can add a bit more savvy and a bit more strength in depth why couldn't we be challengers?

The FA Cup set Ferguson and Kendall on their way when they were under pressure. And, even if we don't win tomorrow, I don't see the sense in dismantling all the many positive things that Martinez has brought to the club because we haven't yet mastered the art of defending.

I'm generally a positive bloke. But these last few weeks i've really really struggled with Everton, and mainly Martinez. I wish I could be as positive as you. In fact I was. Not even that long ago. Then we lost to West Brom. That game appears to have been the tipping point my brain needed to go full HATE on a lot of the players, and the of course the manager.

Then West Ham happened. Obviously I was watching via stream, and I fully don't care admitting, I turned it off when they scored their first goal because it was just so very very obvious what was going to happen. Checked about 30 minutes after it finished and low and behold. I've not even seen their last two goals. Can't stand to see them.

I don't want to bring everyone down with my current mood on Everton, so i'll just say i hope you are right. In fact everyone should hope you are right because it only means good things for Everton. I wish I could have the same faith as the few, and it really does seem only a few now, who are supporting the boss and his ways. I just don't see any good in it.

Not only that but the players seem to be getting away with murder too. I'll pick the obvious one, but trust me I feel there are more, in Kevin Mirallas. Saturday was a joke. An absolute joke. But it's all gone quiet on him again.

Man i'm on full on Everton Depression Fest currently. I don't mean to be but I don't see anything to change my mind. Even a win tomorrow feels like it will only be papering cracks. Sadly I don't see myself calming down as the title suggests. We are consistently an average to poor side at the moment, and until we are consistently good again I don't think i'll be happy. And by good I mean Martinez Season 1. Anything below that is average to poor. For me anyway.

I'll try and be more positive going forward. And I was for about 70 minutes against West Ham. But it all blew up. Again.

Mate think of the positives, we have finally after god knows how long got a new owner who appears to be the best we could have dreamed of and hoped for.

On the field, we will either turn it around (unlikely i know) or we won't - but with the new owners if we don't turn it around we will make the changes to do so, two months ago we'd just continue as is regardless and that would be depressing.

Everything is starting to change mate, and i will include our fans innate pessimism - duely earned will be one of those thigns over time too

Fair play on the bravery of the original post.

I think the vast majority of the fanbase are united in wanting Roberto to succeed. There will always be affection shown towards a manager who continually champions our history and asserts that a club of our stature needs to be winning things. The subtle dampening of expectations by Moyes et al never really endeared him to the L4 faithful (despite doing a very good job on paper).

Anyway, tomorrow is absolutely massive. Lose that and it's hard to see him keeping his job.

Over to you, Bobby.

COYB.

The new owner doesn't feel real to me yet and won't until I see something huge happen.

I'll snap out of this i'm sure. As @HibbertsLeftFoot says, over to the manager....and the players.

Great post, we should be excited about the new owner and should be positive for the future.

Feel exactly the same

Good for you mate, you put your point of view forward. I think it is 100% wrong but I wouldn't condemn you for doing so.
I would ask you "What do you consider to be success, and how long do you think it might take?"

Since January, Stoke have only beaten Norwich, villa, Bournemouth, and Newcastle plus their cup games. Like I said, hardly pulling up trees... We'll never know how they'd do with a player they don't/will never have

That's pretty much all we have done but some people are pointing to such results as a big upturn in fortunes and demonstration of progress.

Absolutely right.

He wins, we win. Would be great all round.

It's just if you are running the sort of league form that has just seen Steve McClaren sacked (with a run of 2 wins in 13 last year as well), you're doing well to stay in your job

Big difference between where we are and where McClaren's barcodes are.

As mentioned in previous post, current league form:

McClaren sacked for 4 wins in 15 league games

Everton currently on 4 wins in 15 league games

All managers are judged on form - Mourinho sacked just half a season after winning the league.

Yes because his team was near the relegation zone...if we were there, Martinez would be out.

Dunno cheese, when we went 2 wins in 13 last year we were right down there, averaging a point a game. Getting the chance to do that sort of form twice in consecutive seasons is pretty lucky by modern standards

So we can be more like Newcastle if we fire our manager? Best argument for keeping him I've heard thus far.
