But what about the net spend?

I should just point out, by the way, that I'm not suggesting Moshiri has funded everything himself out of his own pocket

He may have injected some working capital at some point, but more of the spending power will be about the lack of requirement for us to service long-term debt which he has paid off, the lack of requirement to pay for bridging loans, increase in commercial revenues, TV money increases etc etc

Anyone thinking Moshiri is just putting his hand in his pocket to fund everything is living in a bit of a fantasy world IMO, but he has made a big difference to the way which we finance ourselves

The line of credit is, to all intents and purposes as far as I can work out, an overdraft facility. No more, no less.
I agree with that. As I said it's impossible to judge at the moment. Are we being run in a sustainable way? Is Moshiri funding us like a sugar daddy? Is he going to bankrupt us like what happened to Liverpool?

I think Dave's problem is if he's not funding us like a sugar daddy then after selling Rom, Barkley etc and bringing in older more experienced players if we don't break into the champions league we could be in trouble.

We have probably spent close to if not over 200m since Moshiri joined in 3 windows. In 3 years time what will our current squad be worth because if Moshiri isn't willing then to invest and invest heavily we could be in deep trouble.

I like our signings but I don't see any Lukakus in it that would be able to fund another squad rebuild if needed. Maybe Keane might do a Stones but that's about it.

Summer transfer spend so far:

£98M

Summer sales so far:

£108M

So far, one player of note out (one we relied on far too much for our goals and one that was more a flat-track bully than a big-game star) and six in (five of which will greatly add to the overall depth and diversity of play, meaning less reliance on one player's form). I couldn't care less which side of the balance sheet it ends up. If the team is improving, that's ALL that matters.

It's not that it doesn't matter, mate, it doesn't exist as a concept other than in the heads of those presenting the argument

Appreciate I've got on my soapbox a bit with the OP, but I just find the whole financials argument being presented by people who genuinely don't have a clue about it absolutely infuriating

Nice OP mate, cheers for putting in the effort to help fans understand that this football business really is business, which is usually very complex.

It baffles me that although there has been loads of articles and information similar to what you posted detailing how deals are broken down, fans seem to completely forget they read this factual information and incorrectly simplify the whole concept into something they can use to argue people with. Then I remind myself it's the internet and I could actually be talking to the GOT bot.

It's a romantic thought that we all know better. So romantic in fact that people start to actual believe it...!

I just swerve them.

Wages have gone up incrementally for years now. It says nothing about *changed circumstances*. They went up tens of millions under Kenwright, they will under Moshiri, they will under his successor.

Of course wages go up incrementally, that's the same for all clubs, but in signing more new players for big (by our previous standards) fees our wage bill will increase exponentially and it's only right that it is factored into any discussion about our ambition and changed circumstances.

Don't mind having a conversation about it at all, or having to explain it.

If anything I've over-simplified some of that OP, but for the sake of not wanting to bore everyone I thought I'd shorten it. I was tempted to go into player trading profits and how they're accounted for and their importance, but I thought better of it.

Hopefully a few people will at least now see that transfer fees in isolation mean absolutely nothing, because they're only a constituent part of financing player acquisition. If that's the case, I've achieved something today, even if I haven't at the office

If you've got him on ignore then how can you both see and then post on, his thread???
I believe, if someone tags you into a thread initiated by someone you have on ignore then the thread becomes accessible to you (not the OP itself of course, just subsequent conversations pertaining to that post).

The financial year ended May 2017 evidenced a net transfer spend of 33mio.
To date, this financial year's is about zero. I suggest it will end up somewhere similar to last year's (if not slightly higher).

Again, those figures are meaningless unless they are accompanied by the other costs surrounding the acquisitions

Sorry, I know I sound like a broken record but I am on a one-man mission to rid the internet of this meaningless term
