Bryan Oviedo

On that question I think it depends who we are playing. I think we have a manager who will rotate players and we should welcome that development. Oviedo was superb tonight though.

I think we will k=try to keep them both fresh. That has to be better than the flogging of Osman, Saha, Cahill, Gibson half to death for most of the season when they weren't fresh that symbolised the end of the Moyes era.
ehmm....Barry?

Love Bryan, did excellent in a stand-in role. Love how he was gettinig on the Gwladys trying to get them going in the second half. Would like to see a 3 year deal with him. Nothing exorbitant. Most of his injuries have been mindlessly freak ones as opposed to 'calf injury....hamstring....hamstring...groin'. Hope his run of injuries are done..

Across his career I'd agree with you, but I think Baines has actually had a great season defensively, it's just overshadowed by the fact that the defensive unit as a whole has been poor. I can't really recall a lot of goals coming from that side or resulting from Baines mistakes when he's fit.

Oviedo is more suspect just because he's more likely to get caught in possession up the field and rely on the midfield player in front of him to track back. When that player is Cleverly it's not a big deal, when it's Kone it leaves us very exposed.
Disagree, think oviedo is the stronger of the 2 defensively

I think he offers a little bit more energy than baines at the minute so would leave him in the team for the time being. Baines seems to be a nailed on starter when fit, and this effects him , we might see a better baines when he comes back , if he knows he is not a guaranteed starter , it's amazing what a bit of competition can do. The same applies to mcarthy and besic, .... Bobby needs to drop players when not performing, players need to accept this, it's part of football

Because of the gaps between his appearances, each time he comes back into the team it surprises me how strong and aggressive he is! He is way find of a tackle is young Bry, and given the right cocktail of mood altering chemicals could become a right snide in our midfield! :)

Absolutely. But Martinez tends to delay doing this time and time again.
Anyways... Hope he gets a new contract. Someone mentioned we had an option of an extension. Can anyone confirm this please
Thanks

Perhaps he wil move Baines into MF.

Sorry to go off topic, but can someone please explain the pronunciation of Oviedo's first name. I know it's pronounced like "pie" but the Y in Spanish is usually pronounced like "free". Is it a Costa Rican thing?

Tbh, I haven't noticed Baines doing anything impressively all season. He's not delivered set pieces, he's been involved in many of the defensive calamities in recent weeks, and his game going forward looks stunted in comparison to the past.

I mentioned this before, but I think it's just nostalgia now (his inclusion as a starter).

I like RM, but he has to be strong enough and iconoclastic enough to rip out of the team the parts that aren't functioning, whether that's Howard or Stones or Baines. And keep them out until their replacements aren't cutting it. That's the way it should work. A meritocracy.

Just to add, I think it's becoming increasingly clear that Baines needs protecting in terms of playing 2/3 games in a short time, chance for Oviedo to do what he did last night and step up.
