Bryan Oviedo

He has a lot to offer the first team at LB. But my issue is that he shouldn't be in there at this moment when we need to get bodies behind the ball and defend well, and that he shouldn't be automatically starting. He just isn't out there in front of Oviedo for that type of respect.

On that question I think it depends who we are playing. I think we have a manager who will rotate players and we should welcome that development. Oviedo was superb tonight though.

I think we will k=try to keep them both fresh. That has to be better than the flogging of Osman, Saha, Cahill, Gibson half to death for most of the season when they weren't fresh that symbolised the end of the Moyes era.

Finally a bloke who can take a corner. How many times have corner kicks failed to beat the first man this season?

Baines is still my first choice but just. I reckon he has declined. Free kicks, corners and getting to the by-line
have gone down in quality so it was great to see Oviedo have a solid game.

Galloway has ways to go on his attacking skills and funnily enough does not seem that strong in the air yet.

Seemingly always has a good game, apart from at RB the other night. Its weird how some always entertain the idea that hes not good enough or should be sold, hes exactly what we need in the squad and now fully fit capable of competiting for the Lb slot with baines

i want him to retire here, even if he doesnt start every game he's evertons best utility player, i have no doubt he'd do a job in any position we put him in.

Loves the club, loves the fans, give him a new long term contract imo.

It's people who don't understand context and wrote him off because he was injured while some others prefer Garbutt as he's younger and has a good delivery. Personally if I had to choose between Bry and Garbutt as a backup I'd pick oviedo. Think he brings more to the squad especially as a role player, he's more versatile.

Oviedo was certainly back to his best last night. Up against a big powerful lad in Sissoko and he bullied him off the park. I think people seem to forget this guy is an international for a really handy Costa Rica team and he has an undoubted passion for playing for this club. In times like this the club needs players who will literally break a leg for the team and this guy did. Well played Oviedo Baby!

Reminded us all why we love him yesterday, particularly when he beat Sissoko to the ball and sheparded it out for the late goal-kick and pumped up the crowd.

Realistically, Baines is still first choice when everyone is fit, but it's great to see Oviedo pushing him for that role.

If he gets injured again I'm willing to donate whatever tendons he needs, lord knows I'm not using them.

Baines has it over both going forward. Maybe it's been this season's reversals, but I just want a defender to defend atm.
Across his career I'd agree with you, but I think Baines has actually had a great season defensively, it's just overshadowed by the fact that the defensive unit as a whole has been poor. I can't really recall a lot of goals coming from that side or resulting from Baines mistakes when he's fit.

Oviedo is more suspect just because he's more likely to get caught in possession up the field and rely on the midfield player in front of him to track back. When that player is Cleverly it's not a big deal, when it's Kone it leaves us very exposed.
