'Breaking News that nobody is interested in' ...

....I'm not so sure. C4 news have done a fine job exposing this but it's been clear to me that there was little political appetite from other parties to criticise too much. The indication is that they have 'all been at it'. Saying that, it would be good to see them held to account.

Channel 4 News has raised questions about election spending in 30 constituencies in the General Election and a further 3 in by-elections. These constituencies are covered by 16 different police forces.

30 constituencies. Many of them (16 I think I read) tory wins from lib-dems. Quite possibly (read probably) across the political spectrum. Nevertheless, it must have legs for the electoral commission to ask for an extension.

You never know mate - it could force another general election.

As an ex-Labour member and still a Labour voter, there's no doubt they've all been at it. Each and every party is as guilty as the next which is probably why there's not been much hoo ha about it.

I'd love to see the Tories implode over a scandal that they couldn't deny, but there's no doubt that every other party would be shuffling their feet hoping they wouldn't get caught.

They're all as bad as each other and I'd give anything to see a new breed of politicians stepping up who answer questions directly and don't con the electorate.

....as I said, it will open a can of worms. From what I recall, sanctions can only be imposed within a 12 month period after an election. Regardless, I can't see there being a re-election and if there was the Conservatives might well be rewarded with a greater majority.

Hence the electoral commission asking for an extension. I tells ya mate - If (IF indeed) it's granted, I have a feeling this'll be big.

I wouldn't too sure about that, squire. They're the ones who have the most seats under scrutiny. Given that satisfaction with them is low at the minute, with no signs of things getting better (Doctors' strike, budget u-turns, EU election schisms etc) and add into the distrust many will have with them if their seats have to be re-contested because they fiddled their expenses...

I'll be keeping a close eye on this.

I don't remember writing this. I'm an articulate drunk.
