'Breaking News that nobody is interested in' ...

Was listening to Radio 2 on the way home ... there was a fella phoned in last Friday to request a song for his dad's 80th birthday.. anyways it turns out the old fella had lived a fantastic life... he had been a session musician in the 60's and has played on hundreds of famous tracks including 15 number 1 hits.... had him back on today talking about his time with the bands .... fascinating life he's had.

Don't know about no-one being interested in that (as in the thread title).

That actually sounds very interesting to me!

I didn't get the job :(

Absolutely crushed here to be honest. My feedback was actually that i interviewed really well and was only a point off the person who got the job, but ultimately lack of experience cost me.

So basically for all my hard work preparing for the interview, and the fact i did well considering i didn't expect any of the questions asked, i never really had a chance of getting the job. More to the point, it is crushing because i can't get a new job based on experience but can't get experience without the job?!

But yeah, just crushed, if i had been told i just didn't answer the questions well enough i would have been fine with that. To be losing out for something external of the interview is horrible, especially as if they asked about my experience in where i work i'd sell myself brilliantly.

learn from it and on to interview 2 is it??

see if you can cosy up to someone and get some inside info and see what the interviewers are really looking for. in my experience most interviews are 'inside jobs' ... the people interviewing give out critical info to those who they feel should get the job. try and be one of those 'people'.

i'm not an arse kisser sadly, i'll never be one of 'those' people.

I got some feedback from one of the interviewers and basically someone from the department got it and could answer a bit better than me on specific department answers.

Which makes a joke of opening it out to people who wouldn't have a clue but there you go.

you dont need to kiss arse. you need to be tactfull and just try and get some insider info.

as you said, someone 'from the department; got it. you know why, cos it was an inside job. they were probably prepped for the interview. thats the position you need to get yourself in.

Don't be too down Ash, as @Wizard says look at it as valuable experience for the next interview.

You'll know what to expect next time.

Chin up mate x

Thing is mate, i don't think this was a case of not getting it because of shenanigens as such, just there was a clear advantage of being in there so could answer with those detials.

Doubly frustrating as i can't get a better job where i work because the jobs are rigged. As in completely rigged, no chance of even applying. So the best way to get a better job is to take a worse job somewhere else and wait for the chance to get said better job if/when it came up.

You can see why i am fustrated about it!

Yeah, i have learned from it but to be honest i got my hopes up a little bit over the weekend, and to hear essentially i did everything i could and still failed is a bit crushing. As i said if i had interviewed crap then i'd take it as a learning experience. the fact i couldn't have interviewed better without prior knowledge of the department which i would never would have known? You see what i mean?

there is nothing worse than going for interview all gee'd up, and then finding out the whole process was rigged after the event.

life is a real bitch at times.

ive lost out on a few jobs like you have here, but ive also benefitted bigtime from having insider info too. i was actually able to get hold of an interview questionaire for one specific job and was totally prepped for the interview, suffice to say i got the job.

its all about who you know and not what you know unfortunatly

haha one example of it being rigged is that i had the questions from a previous interview, and i knew i had prepped perfect answers for them .

Only to be told as my feedback that i didn't get the job because i had 'over answered the question'

i would look to move to a completely new company.

youve been set up bigtime!

It's happened to me a few times "We really liked you but there was just somebody who better fitted the experience...." And on one memorable occasion "If the person we gave the job to turns it down you would be next"

They have to have an open and transparent recruitment process so, even if they know who is going to get the job in advance, they have to go through a selection process which is awful for people like yourself who are seemingly there just to make up numbers.

But don't be downhearted- you got really positive feedback so your interviewing skills are clearly very good. Keep trying for other jobs.
