Boxing

I watched it live and, whilst impressed by Wilder's turnaround power, he is a very basic boxer and was totally outclassed throughout. That power is legit though and the sole reason he's one of the top heavyweights around, and you have to give him credit for his desire last night; he was out on his feet and turned it round.

If Joshua has any brains whatsoever, he doesn't fight Wilder in the USA - those scorecards were horrendous. Joshua/Wilder remains an intriguing fight though, because whilst I think Joshua would dominate it (because he throws hard straight shots, something Wilder clearly has no idea how to deal with), he can be hurt and Wilder throws from weird angles. It'd be a fight that'd end in the first 4-6 rounds one way or the other.

I'm still fuming that those bent judges could have conned Ortiz out of a world championship belt. But he was spent in the final two rounds and Wilder had his second wind. I think that's what Wilder was planning all along, but he was far from convincing and definitely didn't back up all the bomb squad wham talk before the fight.
I reckon winning the fight by ko probably backed up his talk a bit like.

By that statement it’s like saying Fury’s win over Wlad doesn’t hold up cos he late 30’s or Ali beating Foreman and so on

The thing is, Klitschko was a legendary world champion who had dominated for a long time and Joshua stood toe to toe with him putting on a wily, veteran performance.

Ortiz, meanwhile, has been in the background and lumbered past the 'White Rhino' David Allen recently who is a domestic level British fighter, yet he utterly outclassed Wilder throughout.

Boxing is about levels really. I didn't see anything to suggest that Wilder is anything other than a very well protected American heavyweight who has a big dig on him and has been fed nobodies and past-its like Stiverne. 40 wins and he's arguably beaten nobody better than Dillian Whyte through it all.

But we'll see. I still think the likes of Povetkin would give both Joshua and Wilder a good go. A lot of what's going on is because of the hype train to generate the money fights and we're in the thick of that now.

You have just summed up the Joshua v klitschko fight there also.

Let’s be honest mate I think you’re on a loser comparing Klitschko and Ortiz and my guess is if you’re a boxing fan you know that , you also know that Joshua fought a much older and poorer Wlad than Fury beat which much of the world seemed incapable of recognising .

So many Boxing fans be they casual or not seem a weird bunch if I’m honest. I’m told AJ is streets better than Lewis , Wilder is the new Tyson and for years Fury was an embarrassment that Price would ko in the first . I understand supporting a fighter you like but it’s a sport where you really should recognise weakness or mistakes and whatever the media say both have got flaws in Abundance.

The thing with Wilder imo is that he’s exciting to watch cos you never know what you get with him. He’s a good talker and so far managed to win and win in impressive fashion(knockouts not great boxing) he’s shown that he struggles with people who have good boxing IQ’s. Washington and Molina were giving him trouble early on til he found a way to pull it off. He’s dangerous with how wild he throws his punches, but anyone with size, power and a good boxing brain will be able to counter, slip and land a big shot on him. His right hand is his dangerous punch, but cos he used his left to distract his oppenant, he leaves it dropped to land his right hand. I think if he was to fight Joshua, that would be his un doing. Joshua’s right hand is super fast and his straight right would stop him on his feet. Go back and watch when Wilder sparred Haye, Hayes right hand had him all over the place with head guards on.

If I was Wilder I would be going for the Joshua fight over Fury first. I think he knows he has a punchers chance against Joshua but knows Fury would out box him with ease.

I think both Joshua and Wilder would deal with Povetkin with ease to be honest....especially if he’s off the juice. He struggles with people who put it on him, both would do that.

It’s good to see the heavyweight division getting the buzz and hype surrounding it after recent years.

I’ve not watched the fight yet but heard Ortiz was winning the fight or out boxing Wilder with ease at times. Glad Wilder beat him after all the cheating he’s done.

To be honest wlad was always an average hw. He ruled over an abysmal era of hws, that aj and wilder have carried on. I mean, I get excited now when a heavyweight challenger turns up in shape!

I'm not a huge wilder fan, he does so many things wrong but he isn't manufactured and methodical, he isn't pumped full of Steds and he doesn't mind taking a dig if it means he lands one.

After that last 15 years of hw boxing... that's a plus for me!

You are right about casual fans, a guy in the pub tried convincing me that if Joshua beats wilder he is the best uk hw of all time! I laughed and said come on... Lennox Lewis and I got the reply of 'who did he ever beat' laughable
