Boxing

I was one of those that remained undecided on him , thinking he hadn’t fought anyone but like you my mind was made up tonight as that was poor. Despite that performance , footwork and technique though Amazingly he was ahead on the scorecards.

The power is certainly there and is something that’d concern you whoever you are but that aside that he was disappointing.

Footwork would only be of a concern against a Fury type who would he able to stay away for the whole fight. Anyone else he will windmill at least once.

I’m not far off thinking with that performance was so poor a Whyte would give him a fight , that’s maybe a bit of hyperbole but that display shouldn’t worry Joshua or Fury. Joshua rightly got criticised for that Takem performance and that was a fight he never in trouble , wilder should be hammered for that . You can’t be a serious fighter and have a strategy that’s I’ll windmill and land at least once .

Just about the only 3 people on the planet who had him ahead......the judges.

All the more reason that people consider boxing to be a sham.

I’m happy to defend judges sometimes and you get a lot of overreaction to decisions that are closer than people think and can be interpretation of 50/50 rounds but all that aside that was a terrible example of scoring .

Ortiz let him off the hook there. As if the judges had Wilder up by the way on the scorecards. Sham of a sport when it comes to disgraceful scoring. That’s why sone people can’t be bothered with it. Wilder would get battered by Joshua in my opinion.

Just came on here to say exactly the same. Diabolical and perhaps a good thing Wilder was able to stop him to avoid such a decision being made by the judges. I'm no expert but it was clear Ortiz was comfortably up, and the commentators on Sky both agreed too. This happens far too often, but as soon as I saw three American judges I knew it'd be a bent decision if it came down to points.

Also laughing at Wilder claiming Ortiz didn't hurt him - he was a couple of punches away from being knocked out.

hilarious people giving wilder grief after that. He destroyed the bogey man of the HW division after showing everyone he has a chin and heart also!

Did you watch it ? The bogeyman , Really ? To be fair though Ortiz did do well against dave Allen and an aged tony Thompson

yes just watched it. Nobody wanted to fight Ortiz, a cagey southpaw who could bang.

What do people want from Wilder? he is 2 - 3 stones lighter than the guys he fights and he puts them to sleep. He is unorthadox but completely fascinating to watch

I'm still fuming that those bent judges could have conned Ortiz out of a world championship belt. But he was spent in the final two rounds and Wilder had his second wind. I think that's what Wilder was planning all along, but he was far from convincing and definitely didn't back up all the bomb squad wham talk before the fight.

I enjoy watching him , it’s entertaining but his technique was awful mate let’s be honest he probably threw more rabbit punches than anything else . The fella can bang there is no denying that but that’s a world champion and his footwork was rank . By the way I’m far from a Joshua fanboy so that’s not where I’m coming from .

What? Am I missing something here? He put Ortiz on his arse 3 times a guy who people ducked for years.

.. and in spite of that 99% of people had Ortiz easily two or three points up. Ortiz unfortunately didn't have it in him to knock Wilder out when he had the initiative and Wilder was so close to being out on his legs.

Wilder was able to maintain a boring eighth round and then repower to finish the job once Ortiz was more or less done.

Not that good from the self-styled best fighter in the world.

You have just summed up the Joshua v klitschko fight there also.

Your hate for wilder is mental

I've nothing against him. And you're absolutely right, this was exactly the same as the AJ VK fight. If you're as good as you claim you are, then you don't need ten rounds to defeat a 38 year old shorter guy in the ring, that's all. If Ortiz had the power of AJ, Wilder would have been KTFO last night.
