Why do people automatically assume Joshua is running from Wilder and not the other way around?
I think it's blatantly obvious who doesn't fancy the fight and it's the guy who fights no marks (and occasionally gets wobbled) in front of one man and his dog.
No fighter fears other fighters in their respected weight classes. It’s more the promoters behind it, especially when it comes to fighters like Joshua. On this occasion I don’t think it’s the case with this fight. I don’t think Joshua is ready for Wilder in his next fight, I think Hearn knows that. I think the demand for the fight is that high, that it needs to be made, especially since Joshua will have to vacate a belt soon. I think Hearn knows he needs another fight before Wilder, that’s what will stop this fight imo.
It would make sense from a business point of view if Joshua fights in America this year against an American. Wilder fights over here against a Brit , both raises fighters profiles with casual fans, making the fight more hyped, more mainstream and more money for the two fighters.
What makes me laugh is people who slate undercards of PPV. The reason the undercards are “weaker” is due to money been tighter, so the bigger profile fights can get made that fans demand. It’s always been that formula. Last week we got a great card of knockouts for free, if that was on PPV, people would moan that the whole card, was mismatches and waste of money. Either way, can’t win. Just enjoy the boxing and long may it continue to be on all the time. Weren’t that long ago the was hardly any cards on.
We all know Eddie Hearn is a tool but can’t deny what he’s brought to a sport that was practically dead in this country less than 10 years ago. He will want that fight made more than anything so he can line his own pockets up. He’s right in what he’s saying that, heavyweight boxing in the U.K. is where it’s at right now. Joshua should be getting atleast 65% of that purse against Wilder.
