Booked for Unsporting Behaviour

They use it to their advantage because its a good weapon to have regarding their height of the team.

If it gets sussed and delt with easily by another club like a Chelsea etc they'd be out of ideas.

Fair play to em for using the law of the land. Clever really. Unfair but legal.

It's stupid rule, especially when a team can put a player directly infront of the goalkeeper because he can't be ruled as offside from a throw in.

bingo !

the fact stoke use this tactic is unsporting.
long throw into the box , stand a man right in front of the keeper to obstruct his view.whats the difference to what arteta was doing ? both are unsporting.

this is a definate loop hole in the rule book.

surely if a throw in taker needs a 2 metre clear area then so should the keeper ? more so in fact !

if a keepers view is allowed to be inpeded then so should a throw in taker.

also to give arteta a yellow card was pathetic considering some of the bad tackles that were less harshly punished.

anichebe was hacked down twice in a row while almost having a free run at goal , this could have unfairly stopped us from scoring or even injured anichebe , so why was it only worth the same punishment of arteta just standing with his hands on his hips ?

backward rule , backward decision , backward ref.

I agree with above....if there's a 2 metre rule for the thrower then the rule should be the same for the goalie, but only against Stoke !!! ha ha Would Rory Delap get a game if he wasn't a one trick pony ????

It was silly to get booked for as I certainly did not see anything to indicate a warning from the ref before.

As for these throws. They are an effective weapon as there are no offsides from throw ins so any attacking player can go right on the line and basicly get right in the keepers face! I was watching yesterday the ammount of times their guy's were causing fouls. Mainly obstruction where they just blatantly block the path of defenders and keeper whilst someone attacks the ball. Every throw there was something going on!

But fair play to Stoke for useing this tactic which is going to get them loads of goals this season.

I agree Paul a team with limited resources as compared to the Chelseas have to use any legal advantage they get,but the rules in general baffle me like if the ball is going out and the defender stetches his arms out to OBSTRUCT the play reaching the ball.then there is the defenders that just block off the oncoming forward at corners they dont even look at the ball the refs see this and let it go so I asume the old rules have changed even a throw in by the law of the book when I played a good number of throws are foul.

Not quite on thread, but I just read that Chelsea appealed against Terry's red card at the weekend and it's been reversed. (Actually, it's completely unrelated, but this angered me somewhat when I read it, and I didn't know where to post it!!)

Is it just me, or does the big 4, especially Chelsea get what they want on a regular basis from the FA? From what I saw, Terry produced a diving tackle that Lawrence Dallaglio would have been proud of. ie. he completely took a player out (unfairly) that had a clear run on goal.

He gets red. Chelsea appeal. They get let off. Terry free to play next game.

If that happened to us, we'd think...crap 'tackle', fair play - he deserved his marching orders, ban, end of.

Not sure where I'm going with this rant, but it seems we get booked for nothing and big teams get let off for major offences.

There, that off my chest!!:@

Good decision to be honest, it was never a red

Yeah, i think the same. The other defender would have got across. Infact the forward knocked the ball so far it may have gone to chelsea anyway. Besides, it's not like we can appeal Arteta's yellow, so it's pretty irrelevant :(

My point is that regardless of whether a decision is right or wrong, we always seem to get the raw end of the deal from the FA. I know you can't appeal a yellow, but if Yobo had done what Terry did, it'd be a straight red, no reverse of decision.

ps. If the FA don't charge Moyes today I'll eat my hat!!

So standing in front of Rory Delap while he launches yet another of Stokes one dimensional attacks earns Arteta a yellow card.Does anyone understand the meaning of ungentlemanly conduct or unsporting behaviour ???If you were jumping up and down in front of the thrower then I could see that maybe classed as unsporting, but if you were just stood there with your hands by your sides or even behind your back....I see no problem. Why is it deemed a yellow card to stand in front of the thrower yet on corners, set pieces, or even Delap throws, the oppostion can stick a man right in front of the keeper. Not just standing there but pushing shoving backing in and basically doing everything possible to impair his sight of the ball or distract him??? The rules are becoming much to hard to understand !!!!!

As a regular park player you have to be 2 meters away from the thrower, this has been the case for 2 or 3 years. If you dont its a bookable offence.
