Bobbys pay off

I went to that Palace game, got back to the car afterwards and turned on the radio just in time (sadly) to hear RM's post-match thoughts and the "incredible, incredible" stuff. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Yes, we did play with 10 men but all the same.....

So sorry to hear that mate. My thoughts go out to you.

How long was RM's initial contract in 2013, was it 3 years? So, just one year in doing his job very well on good terms he was rewarded by a new vastly improved 5 year deal. And because Bill was still gushing with the "he's an incredible guy" stuff, RM's legal team were allowed to dictate the clauses and the club rolled over and had its tummy tickled.

Is that too harsh or is it true?

Thanks.o_O Not the worst 0-0 ever. That was the same ground, about 92-93 time, a midweek league game vs. Wimbledon on a freezing cold windy night on a roofless open and near empty terrace. Now that was grim. The one and only time I have ever bought Bovril at a game.

Think the worst game outside of any Martinez home games I've ever been to was a 0-0 draw at Blackburn in about 2004. Don't remember a thing that happened apart from them having a goal disallowed.

He did have an excellent 1st season and the club appeared to do the right thing in giving him a more secure and lucrative contract. What it also did which I actually think was the start of the problem was this:

For all our frustrations of results on the pitch it has been often big decisions off it that have set us back badly.

I said earlier mate that if this is true - and regardless of it being his legal right - I'd think a lot less of Martinez.

The fact of the matter is though that it's a report by the Mail and S*n...and I dont believe a word of it, and anyone who does have very short memories of what toxic liars they are.

Bit too convenient this story's timing for me. As @ToffeeDoug suggested earlier in this thread, it has the hallmarks of an owner who's suffered a terrible week in the media looking to deflect at the expense of others (Kenwright in particular no doubt).
Nah I don't pay attention to The S*n.

Didn't realise that's where it originated - just with everyone discussing it and that.

You can because he just rode the coat tails of Moyes final season.

No he can claim no credit whatsoever and I wish him every misfortune going forward as he has undeservedly been the luckiest man on the planet the last 4 years.
So he had nothing to do with
A) bringing in rom
B) bringing in del
C) bringing in Barry
D) bringing in mc Cathy
E) giving Barkley a big role
F) giving stones a big role

None of that was moyes.

The only thing you can credit moyes for us leaving and cultivating a "we'll show you" mentality because of his complete lack of respect to us.

What happened that season was down to Martinez, just as were the next two horror seasons.

Martinez also stood his ground re selling stones.

He did good things. He did bad things.

I still don't get the hate.

I am glad he's gone though because it was obviously getting worse results and bs wise

You know when he first came and was waxing lyrical about how great we were, while it was nice to have our collective egos massaged it came across to my cynical mind as too forced almost contrived and false. However following his rejection of a negotiated settlement and successful pursuit of what was rightfully his. I think he did 'get' one aspect of us, our bitterness!!

I don't think the word hate is appropriate, but Martinez lost the respect of the fanbase. His baffling decisions regarding team selection, his failure to acknowledge mediocre or sub standard performances and unfortunately the purchase of niasse and the continued 'claims' regarding his fitness ultimately meant he turned the atmosphere at goodison into the worst I have known it since the Mike walker days. As for the compensation claim, don't have an issue with that, he's only seeking what he was entitled to. Instead questions need to be asked of kenwright who gave him such a ludicrously long and substantial contract on the basis of one season.

Original contract was for four years, so the new five year contract was a two year extension

It didn't, it originated from the guy who broke Moshiri buying us. Looks like a response to the Kenwrigt praising piece last week if I'm honest

Just don't get the stuff aimed at Martinez here. The Club offered him a lucrative contract and he signed it....every last one of us would do the same if our employer offered us one that was clearly stacked in our favour. Results dried up, the players downed tools and the crowd turned. He lost his job ( rightly so as it happens) and called in his severance....are swe saying in the same situation we wouldn't claim what was contractually ours? The players who downed tools still earn their big salaries despite not doing their best for Everton in that period yet there's no hate for them. Quite bizarre.

So, if that's the scenario....why didn't the Mighty Moyes have a fine first season at Old Trafford where he could have "rode the coat tails" of SAF's last season? Martinez can claim all the credit for that first season as Moyes was simply not involved....likewise he can be chastised for the next two seasons.
