Bobbys pay off

A simple clause in the contract was needed. "2 consecutive bottom half finishes and EFC can terminate the contact with £0 compensation due to Roberto Martinez".

When he signed it in 2014 he'd just finished 5th and thought he was the balls (so did everyone else).

They should have used the lawyer that inserted the Fellaini 31st July minimum buy out clause deadline. Genius that was.
Correct. Managers get sacked all the time for poor performance. Clauses should have been in place to prevent such a big pay off if things went wrong. They weren't, so Martinez is just receiving what he's entitled to.

True dat. Don't blame RM. just getting everything he was entitled to. Must have been weird for him in those final few weeks knowing the sack was coming.

Bet in his head he was thinking "£10mil... Just a little longer... £10mil... Just keep saying ridiculously positive things... £10mil... Select t.howard for maximum effect..eat"

Still disgusted and astounded by the amount he's recieved for doing a bad job.
I said earlier mate that if this is true - and regardless of it being his legal right - I'd think a lot less of Martinez.

The fact of the matter is though that it's a report by the Mail and S*n...and I dont believe a word of it, and anyone who does have very short memories of what toxic liars they are.

Bit too convenient this story's timing for me. As @ToffeeDoug suggested earlier in this thread, it has the hallmarks of an owner who's suffered a terrible week in the media looking to deflect at the expense of others (Kenwright in particular no doubt).

Dave why don't you accept you've been had by a fraudster - we all have.

Note that the team went south dramatically as soon as he signed his fully guaranteed second contract. And that's because after that point he couldn't care less.

It's been said that he's a great guy always in a happy frame of mind and polite to everyone he meets.

Well I'd be walking around with a smile on my face knowing I'd be guaranteed 10m+ as long as I didn't physically assault a club employee or any other similar act of gross misconduct.

Sickening and I truly wish him ill.

Tbf, I think you're the one finding it hard to move on mate.

Think thats a bit harsh Kev.

He got found out. Tried his best, but came up short. Not the first, certainly not the last.

Truly wishing someone ill?

You need Jesus.

I'd rather have him than Moyes. He tries to play football to feet. I think that first season he put in (or had the players put in) added to the couple of seasons Big Joe was here in the mid 90s are the three seasons I've enjoyed most since The late 80s. None of Moyes', or certainly the lousy Smith's, seasons were worth a damn.
And what were your thoughts on finishing 11th in the last two seasons?

He got found out and came up a long way short but he simply couldn't accept that he was in the wrong on anything or had to change any aspect of what he did. Seven years a Prem manager and one top half finish to his name yet the penny never dropped due to his appalling arrogance and stubborness. Once it gets to 10pm on Monday night I will wish Moyes a long and successful career at Sunderland but I will never ever forgive Martinez for the wilful negligence of his last two years at the club.

I was saying that he didnt down tools as was suggested.

But other than that, I agree. Shame really, but its a brutal game.

Martinez duped pretty much all of us. The smarter ones on here saw through his BS earlier than others. And only bruised ego and pride prevents those still rating him from admitting he was a fraud...and they'd been gibbed.

Well said Doug

For me, the shame is that he had it all, a wonderful first season, both in terms of points and entertaining football and then tossed it all away. What a wasted opportunity for him because he couldn't build on it or adapt as the rest of the Prem sussed us out and changed tactics accordingly. Instead he put out half-fit teams, had no idea how to defend set pieces and employed tactics and a formation that never changed, no matter what. And he got found out as he couldn't change. Always someone else's fault, never his.
