Nobody is questioning whether or not he should have been let go. It's the outlandish shouts that he's the worst manager in our history that I take issue with. His worst season with us in terms of win percentage was actually his second season, not last season. Even then it was 35%. Last season it was 41%.

But those stats aren't taking into consideration the tools at his disposal so it's a pointless argument. If you want to talk about Martinez stats then look at them in isolation don't compare his win percent with Lukaku, Barkley, Stones, Jagielka and so on to Kendall MK III with Williamson, Farrely, Madar and so on. Utterly pointless.

I'd rather have him than Moyes. He tries to play football to feet. I think that first season he put in (or had the players put in) added to the couple of seasons Big Joe was here in the mid 90s are the three seasons I've enjoyed most since The late 80s. RM showed that we could play that way again, if all too fleetingly and then he couldn't sustain it...or rather get those wallopers in blue shirts to keep it together.

Maybe, but under Moyes teams didn't like playing us, under bobby bar the 1st season teams loved playing us and that's what hurt.

yeah - hindsight is a great thing. There isn't one person on here that after than first season didnt think that contract was in place to save US when people came knocking for him, but ... this is the key part:

Fair enough too. Signed up to do a job, terminated unfairly from it. Seeing as the expectations set out in his contract would have been pretty vague or nil, most likely "keep us up every year, 40 points will do it just as it did for Davey Moyes".

As Elong says, there should have put some stipulations in there, but i think we were all too busy being blown away on the wave of hope and expectation, which ironically in the end got him sacked.

Football nowadays is just a cesspit of money. Can't wait to see it all come tumbling down.

He is far from the worst we've had, People have very short memories. If we hadnt dropped the 2 goal lead vs Arsenal on teh first game of the second season it might have all been so different. It was fun for a while.

He made us all wake up to the fact we're Everton and shouldnt be happy just being there. He wanted to get us in teh champions league. THat mentality rubbed off, expectations rose.it all came tumbling down. None of this of course forgives some of the utter nonsense that he said towards the end or some of those "performances" that he was unable to fix.

You know, maybe in 5 years time we'll be looking back at his appointment (and then sacking) as the catalyst for bigger better everton that win things. Heres hoping
